JD Machine Rear Take Down Retaining Screw

Are any of you guys using the retaining set screw for the rear take down pin or are you just slapping the spring and detent there? I know it's been done like this for any years but if my receiver is threaded, I'd like to use that function haha.

Does anybody have any idea where to buy the set screws locally? I went to ACE and picked up a #4 set screw but it didn't fit and I believe that was their lowest size

I've called them in the past about a couple of small items I wanted to change, and they sent it. (pins, etc). Might give it a try.

Are you talking about this mod?

You can't just stick the screw in there. Drill and tap first.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Sorry if the original post was unclear. It is already drilled and tapped, I just need the set screw. It looks to be like 4-40x1/8 but the #4 diameter at ACE didn't fit.

If it's the 308 lower, it's not just a normal set screw. It's the same one the bolt stop uses.

I thought it was a 4-40 also. Is there a chance someone dropped a #6 screw in the bin for the #4?

My Aero has it threaded for a 4-40 and I had to cut a little bit off the spring but it was worth it

The rear take down detent and spring are my mortal enemy. Interesting info about the retaining set screw.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
