At least the Noveske and VLTOR are doing the same design to keep things universal between the two. I guess Noveske was using VLTOR for their rails and they decided they'd do better working together. They're still super pricey though.

And weigh as much as a wet brick. They could stand to slim them down and machine out a lot of excess material.

I had a utg free Float on a previous ar and now I have a yhm. The yhm was 150 and the utg around 65. That utg rail held up great and I'd buy it over again anyday. It may be a far leap to say this but it's kinda like the people that hate hi points because they are cheap. Unless you have actually owned the cheap and expensive to compare any opinion you have is useless.

Free float rail costs are impacted by the source material. Billet rails are expensive to hog out in terms of machine time. Extrusions are cheaper, but custom extrusions are an investment up from. And obviously 7075 is more than 6061. Also keep in mind a lot of high end free float rails sport proprietary barrel nuts, alignment systems, gas tube accommodation, etc.

IMHO, Geissele SMR Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, or Mk4 are great value in the high end rail category.

I just went with an ATI carbine free float from Bass Pro for $70 because I had a gift card. so realistically it was free. seems solid enough for what I will be doing with it.

CnC operations and QC have a lot to do with it. If you look at the Giessele rails, for instance, the cheaper rails have fewer curves and complex radii.
