sks legality question

Yes, I know it looks cool but makes the rifle shoot bad. It throws the whole balance off.
I am still waiting to see how people like the new ProMag stock.
So far when it comes to performance, the original stock is the best.sigpic

Under CA laws...
A semi-auto centerfire rifle that accepts detachable magazines and has a thumbhole stock is considered an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(1)(B)]
Therefore...
If you want to install a thumbhole stock to a semi-auto centerfire rifle, then that rifle needs to operate using a fixed 10 or less round magazine.sigpic

SKS in its original configuration is CA legal as is.
Yugo M59s aren't technically SKS rifles, so they can be used with detachable mags. However just because its legal doesn't mean you won't be arrested and charged anyway. Additionally, it would need to still follow CAs AW ban based on features.
Changing to a non sporter configuration (collapsing stocks, pistol grips, muzzle attachments, etc.), triggers Federal 922r on both rifles.Comment

So the Yugo m59 with detachable mags is good to go as is?Comment

Why would you even want to use those terrible Tapco detachable mags when you can just buy an AK or something instead.Comment

pay attention because this is where it gets tricky..and my question pertains to this thread.
I was informed recently by 2 members here that
my "ATI fiberforce "
(a Dragunov/hunting rifle style) stock is considered a thumb hole stock and will not trigger 922 compliance rules, it does not have a pistol grip by their definition, therefore it keeps its "sporting purpose" is this correct?
I would love to have something in writing about this other than just word of mouth.
can anyone post a link or give us more solid information?
if I can keep from triggering the 922 compliance rules I would prefer that, we wouldn't have to buy a unnecessary parts.
and Carlos the
answer may help you decide whether you want to go thumbhole stock or not.
thank you in advance to anyone who can help.Comment

Technically.
You can still get arrsted and charged for AW possession, but you'll probably win.
Its no different than OLLs, except it's not widely accepted like OLL/BBs.
Which to me is a big exception.
Everyone needs to run with the level of risk they're willing to take.Comment

SKS that use AK magazines are make/model banned in CA. [PC 30710]
(make) Norinco (model) SKS-D
(make) Norinco (model) SKS-M
(make) Made in China (model) SKS Sporter.
Nothing can be done to make them CA legal.
If you want one, you will need to move to another state.
Penal Code 30510
As used in this chapter and in Sections 16780, 17000, and 27555, "assault weapon" means the following designated semiautomatic firearms:
(a) All of the following specified rifles:
(11) SKS with detachable magazine.
Penal Code 30710
Notwithstanding paragraph (11) of subdivision (a) of Section 30510, an "SKS rifle" under this article means all SKS rifles commonly referred to as "SKS Sporter" versions, manufactured to accept a detachable AK-47 magazine and imported into this state and sold by a licensed gun dealer, or otherwise lawfully possessed in this state by a resident of this state who is not a licensed gun dealer, between January 1, 1992, and December 19, 1997.sigpic

the duckbill SKS magazines are not as reliable as the original SKS fixed magazine and it is faster to reload the original SKS fixed 10 round magazine using stripper clips than to reload using the duckbill SKS magazine.sigpic
