GOOD AR15 LONG range muzzle break

I'm sure that this has been gone over I used the search and didn't find any good matches. I just want to know what a good muzzle device for a long range shooter when I need to do that but also just good all around qualities for any type of shooting. Thanks calgunners

You don't need one for long range shooting. The only thing a brake helps with is follow up shots (and reducing the recoil of real calibers, which the AR does not use). Unless you're doing rapid fire long range shooting, you don't need one.

I think any of the open chamber brakes like Surefire, JP and Griffin will do you just fine. My gun was sub MOA at 675 yards with the Surefire and remains so with the Griffin brake. As much as I liked having the Surefire, I feel the Griffin is better at reducing felt recoil. Also consider PWS.

im not sure about followup shots, but i can see the device being beneficial for long range shooting when using a high magnification scope, and being able to see your hits. less/no muzzle rise would definitely make this easier. i agree about the recoil thing though...

The ALS brake on my ALS AR15 upper is great. I've shot .4moa (first 4 or 5 shots were .2moa at a record target during a match) with it at 1000 yards and it'll shoot fine to over 1 mile. Is that LONG range enough for an AR15?

Since you said precision long range, I'd recommend AAC, JP (both versions), and sjc Titan.
But if it were a CQB, I'd recommend surefire, BC, Miculek, and Nordic

IMO even parallel muzzle brakes are best for bench shooting. And even flash hiders like smith vortex, AAC, etc...

Any off set style brakes (uneven ports and holes from side to side) are great for run n gun scenario's.

You can't see your hits at 1000 yards unless you are shooting in the desert sand.

Wow, that's some good shooting. Can you share the details? Gun, load, type of match?

FCSA Sanctioned match this last June at CRC (Coalinga). Our own 50BMGBOB is the match director.

ALS upper on FAB10 lower, ALS stock, Jard heavy hammer&spring (1lb pull), 8-32 NXS.

                      222 grains of H50 under a 750 grain AMAX.

Sometimes I just get lucky and all my flyers hit close together.

Disarmed Marksman used the exact same gun and loads (same mixed headstamped brass too!) at the World Championships this year in Raton and shot a 4 1/2" group with it. That was only the second time he had shot at 1000 and the third time he'd shot my rifle!

If you don't care about looks, I suggest the JP tank brake. 3 gun proven brakes are also great choices: surefire mb556k, JP Cooley, sjc Titan, and even the affordable miculek brake. I would use a brake over a flash hider to take advantage of the follow up **** capability of a semi auto. Smile, wait for flash

Don't want to run a large/heavy brake on a long-range gun, it is as bad of damper on barrel harmonics as laying the barrel on a sandbag.

Brakes help reduce recoil and improve the "natural Point of aim"

To be consistant a shooter needs a good natural point of aim

Many people shoot a .22LR well as there is no recoil to push them off target

If your position is not consistant, the. Recoil will move you and the gun to a slightly different position with each shot.

With a brake the recoil is reduced which minimizes the movement from shot to shot. The movement opens up a group

The most effective brakes are normally the loudest.

The SJC Titan will chase shooters off of the benches to your left and right from a .308

Use the advanced search or the google search and you will find threads on brakes and links to semi scientific reviews of the brakes
