How to install a PRS buttstock?

I have 2 different AR's that i bought. I've never built one so if this question seems stupid, oh well.
i just bought the Ruger SR-762. I want to put the Magpul PRS buttstock on it. I know it requires the rifle length buffer tube and spring but do I have to change the buffer also?

Yes, rifle tube and spring requires a rifle buffer.

Make sure you get the proper buffer specific to the 308 for an A2 buffer tube. It is shorter than the 556 variety. If you get the wrong one, you won't be able to fully cycle your bolt due to that added length (which is only about a 1/4" our so.)

            Good question!
I went to Rifle Gear and told them what I wanted to do and they brought a new spring and buffer out for me. Unfortunately I shoot it yesterday and had nothing but problems. It would feed right. Several times I pulled the trigger and it didn't fire. Should I have stayed with the buffer and spring that came with the gun?

What makes you think the buffer would be causing these issues? Not going into battery?

If I had to venture a guess, I would say it sounds like something FCG related like hammer spring / disconnector depending on the actual issues...

Would the weight of the buffer or length of the spring have anything to do with it? The gun ran fine before the change to the Magpul stock

I just did one of these, but on an A2, so I didn't need any other parts. The only roadblock was a very threadlocked stock retaining screw. I started to strip it, so I tried the largest screwdriver possible, soldering iron heat, etc... no luck. I ended up drilling the screw head off and then I got the stock removed and still used direct flame from a lighter to heat up the screw stub which then turned with a pliers. No damage to anything except a .25 cent screw. The PRS went on smooth after the removal. Great stock.

If anyone has a REALLY stubborn old A1 or A2 stock screw I will recommend drilling the head off plus heat every time.

What length gas system do you have? What length buffer do you have?

does your rifle have an adjustable gas system ?
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

did your gun come with a carbine buffer tube ?
if so then it was tuned for a carbine buffer setup.
your gun is a piston driven system ?
it sounds like your gun was short stroking and just not resetting the trigger.
your gun should have a knob on the front of the rail to increase the gas pressure to the piston. just go one click to increase pressure.
you need to actually go thru the manual.
