Wrong, try again. Loaded with the right bullets .223 is a great round for coyote hunting, as well as feral pig hunting. With Barnes TSX bullets its capable of taking up to medium sized black tail deer with no issues.

I know a guy who's uncle walked in on a creep who tied up his wife on the bed. The uncle grabbed his AR, shot the guy 7 times! and the guy (of course) lived and now the uncle is in prison for 20 for "excessive force". WAY too many stories from the battle field of GIs shooting many shots into enemies and they just walk away. If it can't kill people then it isn't a hunting round. Yes of course it can kill small animals. So can a .22 with a good shooter. Yes of course if you hit JUST right you can bring down a larger animal. You can kill a person with a .22 to the eye! But is 5.56 a reliable hunting/defense weapon. Absolutely not. Is it a good military weapon. No. Will you hit at what you aim at? Yes. Will it bring it down? Probably not...

Saying a bolt gun is "more accurate" is a statement that is getting less and less true. Now days i will put up my larue predatorOBR against a rem 700 and have the same accuracy. You can argue muzzle fps but thats about it.

Weight is also up for debate. My larue weighs less then my rem 700 SPS.

Also if your main goal for owning weapons is personal defense (home, country whatever) why no practice shooting living moving un predictable animals with the gun you choose to defend yourself with. Makes perfect scene.

Try looking at American war philosophy of the cold war (when the 5.56 M-16 came into being). American philosophy was: "Wound an enemy, take 2 out of the fight (one to care for wounded)." What they didn't count on was communist mentality: your brother in arms is wounded? Leave him and carry on!

Bows and arrows is a horrible choice, the arrows were not designed to kill they were designed to wound. Besides the high capacity of an arrow quiver is simply not made for hunting. Why do you need multiple arrows when a single spear can do the job and is more efficient and made for killing and hunting. Besides spears are bigger so its a better choice than a small arrow.
