What do you plan on tacticalating?

Unless your using the gun primarily for hunting there is no need to go 6.8 or 6.5. What you will end up doing is shooting less because ammo is so darn expensive AND hard to find.

That said if you must get a odd ball caliber AR, 300 blk is the most versatile option and gaining popularity everyday.

              I suggest

This is the kinda person that shouldn't be building things- go store bought.

                5.56x45

after you get a few more in 5.56x45, and reload, maybe think about another cartridge.

I have an Alexander Arms 300 Blackout upper, Nikon scope, and Hornady ammo for sale if you decide to go that route. I could save you a lot of money.

This thread makes me sad. No reason to buy an AR in 223 if you don't want it. The list of AR ready cartridges is huge. Pick a caliber you like, find an AR cartridge you like in that caliber, and knock yourself out. These people can go to heck.

I tell you what, you tell me a caliber you like, I'll tell you at least one cartridge you can chamber an AR in using it.

unbelievable. Some folks here look down their noses if your black rifle has no expensive mfg label and a scope on it that has no comma in the price tag. But then whine about ammo costs? Saving hundreds or thousands on buying one gun instead of two buys LOTS of ammo, and even more components for reloaders. No reason to stick with 223 for ammo costs if we don't want to buy another gun! That's like buying a prius to commute with so you can leave your V8 truck at home till the weekends. prius money buys ALOT of gas!

If you reload and want to tinker with something different try the 300 Blackout otherwise stick with 223/5.56. All the other option are rather pricey.

according to 35 of the 45 posts here, I think the consensus is you should purchase and eat either a turkey or ham sandwich. Other fillers are too expensive.
