Fail Zero Bolt Carrier

So I got a FailZero BC, wanting to put it on my Colt M4. Any good advice in regards to what to do first, lube or no lube? and when cleaning is it really just wipe it off or do i still use a clp? I just want to hear experiences of those that have it or been through it

Oil is always required. But with nickel boron carriers, you just don't need as much lubrication. As for cleaning, I would clean it the same way you would a standard phosphate carrier. I wouldn't use anything too abrasive to scrub the outside, just a little bit of cleaning solvent and probably a paper towel or a rag to clean both the outside and the inside. Fail Zero, and other nickel boron carriers, are great and last just as long if not longer than standard phosphate carriers but they still require the same cleaning procedures and oil, just not quite as much oil and cleaning solvent. I have a spikes tactical nickel boron carrier and love it, but I always make sure to still use at least some lubrication on the carrier when I'm shooting, and when I'm done I still clean it the same way. Wipe it off, use a little bit of cleaning solvent to clean out the residue on the internals, re-lube, and reinstall. Hope this helps.

Just because it can be used without lube doesn't mean that it should. It will run fine "for a while" without lube but it will run better, longer with it.

Will BreakFree/Gunzilla followed by Hoppes be okay?, I also use a CAT tool scrapper on my other bolts to take the carbon off, will that damage the finish?

Hoppes will be fine, that lube should be good too, but I'm not sure about the scraper. Given I clean my rifle after every shooting session so I don't exactly build up much of anything, but try using a rough, green sponge to take some residue off first. I'm sure the tool will be ok since the NiB costing is very tough (tougher than phosphate), but I haven't scrapped anything off mine to give you accurate advice on that

With FailZero any lube is ok as long as its not cooking oil.

Scraping the bolt unless you absolutely positively have too don't do it, I ran thousand of rounds in mine and carbon buildup can be remove just by wiping it off and never once scrape my bolt to remove carbon

I've used froglube on a failzero BCG. Froglube is crisco, so cooking oil works fine.

Any lubrication helps metal-on-metal contact. I've heard a modest amount of axle grease does well. I bought the same bcg, and have some frog lube on the way, but for the time being, I just have some REM oil on it. I might get to the range tomorrow to test fire my new build. I know this doesn't help much, but I will keep an eye on the thread just for myself, thanks!

My personal experience is to use dry lube. I use slip2000 EWL and it's very easy to clean if u heat treat the BCG with it. When I clean it, all I use is glass cleaner and the green portion of a scotch brite pad. (Even the bolt tail carbon build up just comes right off)

I've used my Failzero BCG for almost 3,000 rounds and never lubed it. All I did was take it out and wipe it down about twice so far. Never had any issues.

I also own a Spikes NIB BCG which I've lubed before and it seemed to work best without lube.

Good luck with. I'd say try it both ways and see what you like more.

There's supposed to be a dry film lubricant coating inside the upper.

What I want to know is IF carbon just wipes off the bolt, or do you still have to pick it off. A lot of conflicting statements about this.

Yes and no. Nickel boron coatings are typically easier to clean than phosphate however still require some effort to get completely free of carbon. Additionally, over time, carbon will deposit in the surface (think of how brass hitting the deflector deposits brass in the small pits of the anodized surface) and will darken the parts with use.
