I got a little pack of allen key threaded inserts from home depot for like $.50. Drilled a little hole into my dust covers for my Pmags, threaded the insert in and voila. When you go to drop a mag and re insert the next you don't have to fumble for a tool. Works best for when standing or not at the bench.

Last night I was playing around with different ways to use this thing. I think I came up with a method that's definitely faster than using a UBBT, since I can release the mag with the Thumbee with one hand and and reach for the new mag with the other hand at the same time.

A delrin punch, meant for the take down pins. Works great as a bullet button tool. Got it on Ebay a few years ago.

Best thing I've figured out so far:

I see how you think this would be faster as in the time from the mag drops out of the mag well to reinserting the new mag. But you have to think of it as a whole process (the moment the last round fires to ready to fire with a fresh mag).

If your using both hands, one to grab mag, the other with the bb tool on your thumb to drop empty mag then which hand is still holding the gun in the firing position? If you are standing you would obviously have to break your line of sight with your target, forcing you to reposition and re-sight in on your target (once new mag is in) which would cost a lot more time in my opinion.

Similar to Wicked's post, I bought an AR from fellow Calgunner and was pleasantly surprised when he threw in a handful of 10/20 C Product mags w a little plastic protrusion at bottom of each mag- wasn't machined in, looked like mags were built that way.
I like the idea of Reckoner's ring- I actually received a ring similar to this thrown into an order of mags I made a couple years ago (forget which online store bought from)- but was nifty little plastic ring w small plastic protrusion that had name of the online supplier on it- unfortunately I think I lost the darn thing before having chance to give it a try.
                        Subtrafuge- nice gloves!! very cool
I just use a good ol' 5.56 bullet tip sitting on the shooting bench sits that's all I use my AR's for anyway.

This thing works ONLY with the .223/556, not the .308/7.62

I always time reloads from shot to shot.

I use my support hand to pull the rifle in a little bit and tuck the stock under my arm, sort of like how some people do a shotgun reload. While I'm tucking with the support hand, I move my weapon hand thumb (with the Thumbee) around to the other side of the grip, and I slide my weapon hand fingers forward so they're wrapped underneath the trigger guard. So now my weapon hand is supporting the rifle very firmly from underneath the trigger guard. My weapon hand looks almost exactly how my support hand looks when using a thumbs forward handgun grip.

The above takes WAY less time than it sounds on the page. It's almost like I'm tossing the rifle under my arm with my support hand at the same time I'm sliding my fingers under the trigger guard. I'd say I can get the rifle tucked in and supported in around .25-.50 seconds.

So with the stock tucked in and my weapon hand fingers wrapped under the trigger guard, my support hand is now free to go for the mag, and my weapon hand thumb has enough range of motion to guide the Thumbee into the bullet button at the same time. Wrapping my weapon hand fingers under the guard indexes my thumb fairly well to the bullet button, so the Thumbee is at least in the right neighborhood. I glance down just long enough to make sure the Thumbee is going in, and then I look back at the target.

After reloading, I grab the handguard with my support hand and pull the rifle forward and up out from under my arm and onto my shoulder, while at the same time reestablishing my weapon hand grip.

It definitely costs some time to tuck the rifle in and get back on target, but I think it more than makes up for it by allowing me to release the old mag and grab the new mag in parallel instead of in series, and by not making me awkwardly reach over or under the rifle with my weak hand to hit the mag release with the UBBT.

To be fair, I haven't tried the UBBT myself. But, I did race against a few dudes on YouTube. Using the UBBT, their average reload time, WITHOUT hitting the bolt release, was around 5 seconds. Using the Thumbee, WITH hitting the bolt release, my average time is around 2.75-3.25 seconds.

I'm definitely not slamming the UBBT... I'm actually going to put these on all my mags, the main reason being that it's possible to lose the Thumbee or for it to shift way out of place. Also, it scratches the living piss out of the area around the bullet button.

                              EDIT: Here's a video.
