AR15 Freefloat handguard vs. Standard differences?

Well I am looking at replacing the stock plastic handguard with something like a Yankee Hill Handguard. Now my question is, will having a non-freefloat handguard make THAT much of a difference on a carbine length rifle? I truly think it will not, but maybe some of you out there have tried both and can fill me in on what will really improve aside from barrel harmonics and a smidgen tighter grouping.

Rifle is a Stag 2H and will really only be used to poke holes in paper and be a shooter, not looking for a competition grade or anything like that.

Well I was trying to justify getting a freefloat but I do not know what the big difference is besides a smidgen tighter grouping at a longer distance, but even then since my rifle is a carbine it wouldn't make much difference would it?

are you trying to talk yourself into one, or out of one?

yes it improves group sizes, even on a 16" AR if you know what you are doing.

it also improves cooling of the barrel, and looks (tacticoolness)

Well I got an offer to buy a brand new Yankee Hill 2-piece handguard for 100 bucks shipped. So I was debating on getting that or getting a free float handguard and I was trying to weigh out the pros and cons and whether or not I should pull the trigger and buy it.

If you are going to spend the money to upgrade, don't waste your money on a two piece handguard.

I too saw the value of the YHM hanguard and was going to buy one then I wrapped my hand around it and then wrapped my hand around a Danial Defense. Huge difference in feel. The YHM is round and bulky while the DD and other more expensive hand guards are oval and fit the hand better, add rail covers to a YHM and its even bulkier.

you can get a YHM free float for around that price....YHM makes decent budget stuff.

So the prognosis seems to be hold off for a better handguard. I guess I will just wait for the gun show and hope some vendors show up that sell more than knives and toys.

Daniel Defense is as good as they get. They are so much lighter.

Will you be at the Del Mar gunshow 10%? I am just going to wait until then to buy a CTR and new FF handguard.
