No, you need to join a CMP affiliated organization. Your local gun club is likely CMP affiliated. Or you can join the Garand Collectors Association (www.gca.org). Do that and get your application notarized and you are set.Comment

Unfortunately though, "Your application must include proof of firearms activities..."
* No current/past military/leo experience
* Haven't done any competitions
* Haven't does a marksmanship clinic
* Not an Instructor/Coach
* No CCW (need to apply for that soon though)
* Firearms Owner ID Card????
* Not a FFL or C&R
* Haven't done a Hunter Safety course (I don't hunt)
* No Certification from from Range/Club Member/LEO witnessing shooting activity. (Probably my best choice?)sigpicComment

Was reading around their site after I posted that question and found that out. Luckily the Gun Club/Shooting Range I belong to is on their list.

Nope no club matches. Not really into competitions. I just go to the range when I have free time, which is always different times. So it wouldn't be good to try to schedule in a competition. With work, just signed up as a volunteer at the fire station, and side jobs I'm pretty busy.
I guess if I get my CCW, or have a club official meet me at the range and do the certification form, either of those 2 are probably my best bet.sigpicComment

Go shoot a Garand clinic.
It gets you familiar with the gun AND satisfies the marksmanship requirement.
You do realize what the CMP stands for and how they got started right?Randall Rausch
