    Windham Weaponry

I went to the range tonight and had the opportunity to shoot a Windham. I think it was the R16M4FTT. For the price, this seems like a pretty awesome rifle. Completely stock. Has anyone else had experience with Windham and have an opinion that also has shot other AR's?

Windham is basically Bushmaster. Bushmaster sold their company and then moved out of state. The original owner started Windham at the old Bushmaster plant with most of the same employees.

        Yes, I have shot one.

No, it is not essentially a Bushmaster (no comparison IMO).

Yes, they are very good carbines and worth the $$

Good company - Do the research.

Its old school bushmaster, same people , same guns , different roll mark.

New Bushmaster is DPMS... Remington is DPMS

            Ok
Now I get why .308 mags from Bushmaster, Remington, and DPMS are compatible, and not with AR10 mags.

Remington bought them recently and has nothing to do with the mags they used. They are compatible with AR-10 mags, only the mil spec ones. That is where the KAC, DPMS mag pattern came from. Eagle Arms in the late 80's bought the Armalite name from Colt and during the first AWB ban made AR-10's as we know them now , the ones that take m-14 style mags. They wanted to take advantage of all the pre ban mags that customers could convert to still have high caps.

If you go to the Windham weaponry website and go to the team members section or whatever it's called, it has a a little section for each employee and it says worked this many years at bushmaster. From what I remember, practically every employee there now has at least 8 years with bushmaster. I know a guy who has an upper from them and he loves it. He said they're customer service was awesome in helping him with all his questions.

My buddy has the R16M4F22. It's a solid rifle and very reliable with different brand mags. I've shot it side-by-side with my Daniel Defense M4, V1, and another friend's S&W M&P Sporter. I liked the Windham rifle a little better than the S&W. It felt better balanced and seemed to shoot the 223 rounds a bit smoother.

Buy the Windham Weaponry rifle with confidence as it's a fine rifle at a great value.

I've got an MPC. Excellent gun - fit, finish and shooting. Mine actually has a pretty good stock trigger for an AR-15 type rifle. Word is that today's Windham is as good as the old Bushmasters (before they were purchased and "conglomerated"), and are better then the current Bushmasters. I don't have, nor have I shot a new or old Bushy, so I can't confirm that. But the Windham which I own and have shot stands very highly on its own merits. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I love mine . Shoots equally well with 223 or 556. Fit and finish are top notch.I like it just as well as my custom builts.

I'd say its somewhere between a tier 1.75 and 2.25 built rifle.

I'm only kidding and being a smart azz.

They are really nice and a good deal. I don't own one but have handled and shot them. I'm sure it will serve you well. Get it out to an Appleseed weekend and go for your patch.

From what I know, Windham is good and reliable for the money. But personally, I don't like how they use a commercial buffer tube since most of my stocks are made for mil spec buffer tubes which means I can't swap to whatever I like and need to go buy a new buffer tube or commercial stock. And they don't use "F" front sights so you will need to change out to a taller post which they sell for $5.

If they just went all mil spec, it would make things easier for compatibility since I guess most people here have whole bunch of parts that they like to swap between rifles.

I haven't heard anything bad about them. They aren't the biggest or most common name around, that much is true, but they are still a solid company. My only gripe is that I wish they offered a little more variety.
