    M91/30 Bolt Handle Rusting Problems

Hey, I recently picked up my first Mosin Nagant and encountered my first problem. While the barrel and receiver are in "jail" I decided to take the rest of it home and begin the cleaning process. After a few days I noticed that the bolt began to get surface rust. I keep cleaning it off but it keeps reappearing. Not sure what I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, it looks very dull and I would like to shine it up a bit. Any tips on that would be helpful too.

    Thanks

Wierd as it sounds, it's totally normal. The russkies didn't put any finish on the darned things. I founf that out after I handled mine, put it back in the safe and a few months later light surface rust started to show.

Just dip it in rust killer or use a power wheel to get it off. I'm just lazy with mine and cover the entire bolt with Hoppes oil when I'm done.
Anyway...here's a dearth of reasoning to ponder: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Guns

        Neutralize it first.
Lots of products to do this or you could wire brush with baking soda and water.
        Then oil.

It can be found at Walmart in the automotive section.
The best I can describe it, it is like cotton impregnated with a chemical.
Pinch a small part of the wadding off and rub the part with it.
Its good for keeping parts "in the white" rust free.
Although it says its a polish its not the typical meaning of the word. Its not going to make anything bling polished just clean and protect parts.
