    There are...

    DPMS Compatible and Armalite Compatible.

You can recognize them by the shape of the lower receiver right above the back takedown pin. DPMS Compatible is rounded and Armalite Compatible is squared or "sharp angled". This does not mean you will need to use DPMS or Armalite parts. There are lots of brands making parts for them. But those brands tend to pick a track and stick with it. Meaning lots of parts will only work with one or the other. Some companies like Troy for example make parts for both and clearly spell out which one that particular part fits. Some of the parts are universal - but not many. So you'll spend some time confirming stuff will fit your particular flavor of 308 AR before buying it.

Doesn't matter which flavor you pick. You might not even have a choice. Finding Armalite Compatible lowers is hard right now, while 308 lowers are around but VERY expensive.

FYI, expect to pay 4-5x for each part with 308 than you would with 5.56mm.

Also, 308 is better suited for long range target style shooting than running and gunning.

If you can afford it I recommend buying an AR15 type lower and an AR10 type lower. You will find they are very different rifles and serve very different roles - despite looking a lot a like in pictures.

Thanks a bunch, yeah I'm going to build the 5.56 first and then save u p money for the .308. I already have $1000 saved up for the 5.56 and looking to save up about $2000+ for the .308 parts.
