Wow, I haven't done it before but it can't be anymore complicated than something to securely hold the barrel and the something to turn the brake.
From working on my car, I'd pad the jaws of a pipe wrench (or vise grips) for the barrel and turn the brake with a box or crescent wrench.

        Am I missing something?
I'm building an AR so this does interest me.

Nope your not missing anything. It's very simple especially if you've worked on cars

I think somebody suggested it already but I did this once

Lay the rifle flat on the ground on top of a towel or rug or anything that is thick enough to protect the receiver
Make sure the handguard is not touching the ground and is hanging out the same as the flash hider
Have somebody stand on the receiver to make sure it don't move
Now turn the flash hider with a crescent wrench or a armorer tool
The flash hider is at most is just 60 lbs torgue on the barrel and that how tight your barrel nut should be so the receiver cant take it, just make sure your trying to apply force towards the ground not up.

              The ground method can work.

Or, rest the upper vertically on the ground with muzzle up, get a buddy to put on some mechanics gloves, have him death grip the barrel below the FH, and screw off the FH with your wrench. May or may not work. Oil or tape on the wrench to prevent blemishes. Reinstalling with correct timing may be a whole nother issue tho.

If you're over it, South Coast Armory will do it for $10 if purchased elsewhere; free if puchased in store.

I trust that guy's work over a lot of these other places

Just PM Randall, he will do it right, which is more than I can say for most other gunshops in SoCal. I am sure he can also properly time your new muzzle device as well. His services are NOT expensive.

Yeah Randall is good to go, but we're talking simple stuff here. Get a new crush washer, screw on your muzzle device hand tight. Then use a wrench to tighten it the rest of the way and clock it. Done. Simple.

+1. Done right while you wait, watch, and learn.

How is the OP gonna wrench and time a crush washer w/o a vice?

Which begs the question, how the hell do you not have a vice???

The same way myself and many others have done it. Try reading the thread. All you need is a wrench

I've paid $10 to remove the A2 and install a brake, I think it's worth the trouble if you don't have the proper tools

                                Please enlighten me.
I have installed and timed many brakes and other muzzle devices with the use of a $15 Harbor Freight bench vise and a level. I can't quite picture in my head how one is going to get correct alignment of your brake/FH with the rifle lying with a wrench clamped sideways torquing the gun.

I guess details just don't matter to some people
