    Polymer Lower

    Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of building at least one Polymer rifle design as a "M4 A1", and I'm torn between a few Polymer Receiver.

If your are going to build just one Polymer Rifle that is as light as you can possibly make it which polymer lower would you get? New Frontier, ATI Omni, or FMK Polymer Reciver.

Any input is greatly appreciated, and I'm putting it out here cause when it comes to AR rifles I know you guys know your stuff.

Assuming it's for a .223 or bigger weapon, the ONLY one worth finding is one from Cavalry Arms...designed from the start as an AR receiver, with plastic as the material.

Those you mentioned, molded to look like an aluminum lower, I wouldn't consider unless I was assembling a .22 lr gun. I'd assume they're all more or less the same.

That said...you can get major weight savings with a lightweight barrel...why do you want a heavier M4 profile if you're not mounting a grenade launcher??

If you want the weapon "that is as light as you can possibly make it", I would be much more concerned with barrel weight than receiver weight. Though it all adds up, barrel profile changes can get your weapon lighter, quicker.

    Obviously, ymmv.

many people like NF. I have had one before. It worked just fine. for lightweight builds, you can't go wrong.

Yeah, don't do it man. It will be a plinker only. Seen too many cracked in half, especially near the buttstock.

I'm with Hanko on this one. Go with the CAV-15. They are back in production by a company in Oklahoma. It is not a polymer clone of an aluminum part. It is designed from the ground up as a polymer lower. It doesn't crack at the joint between the lower and the buffer tube because the buffer tube and buttstock are built in. And that saves you the better part of a pound in weight, along with giving you a stronger product. I have used one for years on my lightweight build. With a PA red dot scope and riser, and an A1 front sight, it still weighs in at just a hair over 6 pounds.

              Here is their website:

If going for a lightweight build and shaving ounces off of everything to make pounds, check out the MAG magnesium alloy lowers. I chose them for my super-light build after seeing a couple of plastic ones have "issues". I have about 2k through mine with no problems.

Thanks guys, I knew it. When it comes to AR this is the place to ask. Anyway I was just planning on building one cause I havent build one before. I already build a Pistol AR, a Precision AR, a tacticool AR, but never an AR that looks like the really basic A2 carbine Carry Handle flat top 16' that dont have any bell or whistle AR. And since this build is just for fun I don't want to use any of my strip Aluminum or my 2 80% machined lower.

I guess I'm off to Riflegear again to get myself a Spike Spider Lower for this build thanks again guys

I was hopeful for the polymer ar15 lowers, but when I keep seeing them fail, why waste your money and 10 days...

I have a New Frontier one with a few thousand rounds through it and it works flawlessly. I purchased 2 more last week when they were on sale for 29.99! I do plan on buying 1 aluminum one soon thought just in case.

Obama ended the gun control debate when he decided to arm the Syrian rebels with fully automatic machine guns and rocket launchers. He proved people need guns to protect themselves from tyranny. Did he give the rebels background checks before giving them real assault weapons?
