    My first ar!

Well, part of it at least. Spikes Tactical lower. I'm pretty excited on my first build.

Nice! Good pickup. I have a spikes tactical carbine and they're great shooting rifles.

No kidding, I have to keep telling myself to resist the urge to relive those memories and build another rifle.

Nice! I have the same lower on one of my ARs.

I recommend the CMMG lower parts kit. Not to hard to find.

If you go with a collapsible butt stock go milspec diameter and NOT commercial. The difference is the diameter of the tube that the stock slips onto. The part that screws into the rifle is the same. You usually get a snugger fit with milspec which is good.

Also, you only want to put the trigger guard on once. It is really easy to crack your lower trying to remove one that is already installed. It won't happen every time, but it is a real possibility - and an easy one for you to avoid starting off with a stripped lower. So buy a WINTER or ENHANCED trigger guard like the Magpul MOE Trigger guard upfront if they appeal to you. It will be more comfortable to you hand but if you don't want one that's cool too. Just bear in mind swapping the trigger guard out later could lead to a cracked lower. So make up your mind as to what trigger guard appeals to you and stick to it.

Other than that I just recommend going really slow when assembling the lower and using caution with your pins and detents (won't hurt to have a few extra laying around). They like to go flying. I also wrap the lower with a tube sock and duck-tape on the out side of that before trying to install the BOLT CATCH lever. That roll pin goes in at a really odd angle. If the punch slips you'll scratch up your lower. Battle scars from training are cool. Careless mishaps during assembly not so much.

My current ARs...the bottom one has the Spike's lower. Top one is my Colt.

Have fun! I just finished my spikes lower, which is also my first build. I'm already itching to begin another, perhaps an 80% this time.

I 2nd deciding which trigger guard you want to install first because it was a PITA to put in and I would rather not try and get it out now.

Good job. It is good to see first time AR buyers. The more the better! No matter what brand you buy we are all brothers in this fight together.

                        Cheers

And yes they are addicting. Start planing the second one while your building the first

If you spend the time you can find some great deals out there online and even local with a little luck to finish the build.
I am almost done with my first and halfway with my second and I have learned a lot even though I know there's a ton to learn

I'll be the first to say besides congratulations on beginning your first AR build, which is great, CONGRATULATIONS on quitting smoking! Been there, done that. In time you will see that it was one of the greatest decisions you've made. Now you can spend all that money on something really enjoyable, like guns!
