    Shipping a rifle within California

    Hello,
What is a ballpark estimate for shipping a rifle within the state? Any special procedure involved?
    Thank You

I used USPS. It was around $30 or $45 for Priority Mail.

I ended up taping together a medium (flatter rectangular one) and alarge (longer thinner one) flat rate box. to fit a AR with 16" barrel and retractable stock. It would've easily fit a fixed stock as well. Slight discount if you buy the postage online.

Otherwise UPS or FedEx might be around $90.

I used FedEx ground to ship a rifle to Oregon. It cost approx $35.00.

Just make sure you use bubble wrap to wrap that baby up like Mummy. you never know how the carriers will throw your box around.

I shipped a Garand from San Francisco to San Diego using UPS. It cost $23 and included $900 declared value and Adult Signature Required.

Usually in the $30-$40 range for a long gun with full insurance.

I recently shipped a CMP m1 garand in a CMP case from the Central Valley to the Los Angeles area UPS Ground insured for $1000 cost me $21.

1 week later I ship anothrr M1 in a box without the CMP case it was much lighter shipped it from Fresno to San Bruno which was closer than the first shipment insured for $1000 and they charge me $31 I couldn't figure out why it cost $10 more to ship a lighter package to a closer destination.

Even stranger it cost me $18 to ship an m1 from Fresno to Salt Lake City same insurance same method of shipping

Could the differences have been cause by surcharges? The "Adult Signature" surcharge is now close to $5. Then there is the "Residential Delivery" surcharge if the package isn't going to a business that's almost $3. Then there is a $2 surcharge for certain very rural addresses.

Okay thank you all for the replies. So I'm assuming an AR in a plastic case would cost about $35-40 to ship?
