Blackthorne 308 kits any actual experience

I was looking at a Blackthorne 308 kit, the price is almost too good to be true. I have read a lot of crappy reviews from people that have not had any actual experience with their products, but lots of good reviews from people who actually bought them. The problem is they are all AR 15 reviews except one 308 video on youtube, pics would be nice.

There is a reason their stuff is so cheap.

I find it disconcerting that even the "positive" reviews seem to mention out of spec parts and sub-standard QC. Then there was the whole spray-painted bore ordeal.

I had (2) Hessie AR10 lowers, not to bad if you look at them like they are 80%ers that you need to refinish.

Three days to test fire and return, only out the price of shipping.

I have one of their 26" stainless bull barrel 308 uppers. The thing is stupid accurate. When I was shooting it regularly with 178 A-max reloads it would group consistently at 1/2 moa, one of the few rifles I've seen that would actually do that on a regular basis.

                        Now for the bad stuff.

The factory railed gas block is junk. I could not get it to seal against the barrel for anything. Most of those 1/2 moa groups were single loaded due to this. Upon removing the gas block, I found deep file marks all around the gas port on the barrel. The gas port was also grossly oversized for a rifle length gas system on a 26" barrel @ about .110 diameter. I'm guessing this was done at the factory during "test firing" to get the gun to cycle with all of it's gas leaking by through those file marks.

I have since cleaned up the sealing surface of the barrel and replaced the gas block with a .936" low profile unit designed for the heavy contour of the DPMS SASS barrel. Now of course, the rifle is overgassed and takes great joy in nearly ripping the case head off any round that gets fired through it. At some point I'll throw a PRI adjustable gas block on it to tune it down a bit. For the last few years though I really haven't had a desire to shoot it much. I built another 308 on a DPMS platform that is much more reliable as well as being several pound lighter.

OP, you seem determined to buy one despite what others here say, so why don't you do just that and tell us about it?

As for actual experience, I'll tell you this. I've never eaten sh%$, no one I know has ever eaten sh%@, but when people tell me that eating sh%&$ is a bad idea, I'll go along with that.
