    New AR issue

Hey guys! I took my new (first) AR to burro canyon today, and man I love it! My question is this, I put 130 rounds through it, about 100 rounds in I had a double feed. What can cause this? Should I worry?

Keep practicing clearing malfunctions. They always happen at the worst time. Buy some snap caps and practice at home

If it was just one issue, probably magazine related, don't worry. Once your rifle and mags get broken in things should be flawless.

If I could make one recommendation to a new AR15 owner it would be to get Slip 2000 EWL gun oil. Absolutely the best for ARs, does not dry out and stays put over hundreds of rounds.

First step in diagnosis...don't top off your magazine. Load it 3 rounds short if a 10 rounder, at least 5 rounds short if it is a 30 rounder. This is because too much spring tension causes the magazine not to seat properly. Also make sure the back of the magazine (if metal GI mag) is not splinting apart.

If it is NOT the magazine not seating properly perhaps you installed your magazine lock down too tight? You should be able to grab your magazine and wiggle it a little. It needs that play.

Another possible cause that is not so easy to fix is that the gas block or gas system is defective or improperly installed. This is rare but it does happen. Assume it is the mags and eliminate that first.

I would try and diagnose the problem by trying different mags to determine if its a gun issue or a mag issue. Make sure shes wet because shes gonna be tight and then if its determined its a gun issue, go from there.

Not to hijack, but I want to confirm that magazines need to be broken in as well?

Got two new Gen-2 Pmags with no dust covers and had a FTF with both. Gun was well lubed and never had a problem before.
