Iver Johnson M-1 Carbine .30 Carbine

Hey Guys, just saw an Iver Johnson M-1 .30 Carbine for sale on Cabela's Wensite in the Gun Room Link under Military Arms . Asking price of $850.00! Has a Burris 1.75X5 Scope mounted. I have one and have always been told they were Crap. The one shown has a light wood stock (nice) but $850.00seems pricey whatca' think?

Yep, too much. They're OK for civilian M1 carbines, but definitely not worth that much. The scope's probably worth $100, and the mounting system will have some value, depending on what it is.

An IJ would be worth $350 tops in great condition......

Ditto on the $350.00. I can't imagine a plain old IJ going for that much - maybe it's a typo? If not, tell them they can have yours for $500.00 and they'll still make $300.00 or so on the deal, right?

Way high. CMP blows that pricing out of the water. Even gunbroker deals on GI carbines will beat that price. And a piece of history is always going to be more desireable than an aftermarket IJ. Carbines are fun but if you are going to spend $850, you can do much better.

Wow, that's a lot. Last year I had the opportunity to buy an Iver Johnson M1 Carbine at an L.A. pawn shop for $215, but passed on it.
I shouldn't have passed on it. At least I got a Romanian SAR1 AK rifle from the same shop for $220.

A few months ago, I picked up a Plainfield M1 Carbine for $330.

Not even Sgt Crapgame could sell an IJ for $850.00.

Ha ha ha. Love it. Big Joe would definitely not approve of $850.

Now I'm gonna go watch some DVD episodes of the old Combat! TV series...

Just remember that I used to play Army with friends on the Sets of Combat (Bombed out French villages & such) on real Tanks & halftracs at various MGM/FILMWAYS backlots & the Desi-Lu back 40 (Backlot) as a kid ...

Geez. I bought an unfired Iver Johnson M1 Copy-bine a few years ago at a pawn shop in Van Nuys for $200. I took off the wooden handguard and replaced it with a stamped steel vented handguard, then coated the stock in several coats of a thick black epoxy paint, which I then fine sanded out until it looked like it was made of polished plastic. Just for fun.

That price is a Turner's special; probably because whoever priced it had no idea it's a replica. Same can often be seen in how they price Century Arms' M1 Garands at above $1000.

                          .

I got one a few years back at $300 OTD. I had problems with it but a lot of that was relating to poor ammo. My Plainfield has been flawless.
