    AK trigger group question

I just about finished my first AK its a 1972 Romanian kit on a NDS-3. I used a Tapco G2 trigger group. My problem is the bolt carrier hangs up on the hammer.

Its like the hook on the trigger is not holding the hammer down far enough. It seems to shoot fine just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

I used to have a Norinco AK, and that's normal for the AKs.
WTB : RHKP SW M10 or RHKP Colt PPS.

Thanks for the response anyone else have this happen. I ask because my dad also built one and it slides free with the original semi-auto trigger group but hangs up with the G2.

OK, thanks I won't worry about it then. Now I just need a new cover and a semi auto safty select.

My buddy's hangs up alittle too. Is that a screw build? How do you like it?

Yes its a screw build. I have only put 20 rounds through it (it was like 10 bucks a box at wally world) but it seems to work. My ammo just got here today so I will probably take it shooting tomorrow.

Mine was hanging up the the G2 as well and would occasionally get stuck halfway through the mag, I used a dremil and ground it a little flatter ( but not on the spot where it contacts the firing pin) and polished it, added a little grease and it's all good now.

So did you take her shooting? I want to know how she worked! I can't decide if I want to Udrive or screwbuild

Do you have a screw going thru the mag release?
Is this the way most do their AK's? I have several I am doing as well that at this point I intend to use button head Allens.

I took my '63 Romy kit / NDS-3 to the range for the first time on Monday, and had a similar issue with the rear hook.

But, you know that little black tube that came in the G2 trigger group? It's meant to go through your trigger. I had at first dumped all the parts out on the table and thought, "Gee, why'd they send me a spare center support? I guess they figured I'd bent up a flat."

Turns out that the hollow metal tube is to run through the center of the trigger and such. The reason my hammer was hanging on the rear, was because the trigger was loose - there was side-to-side play, and the whole thing was kinda sloppy. The reason for that, was that the holes in the trigger and hook and such are bored much wider than the diameter of the standard FCG pin. You use the black tube to fit through there and adapt the diameter to fit, kinda like the adapters to allow large-pinned Colt-spec AR uppers to interact with standard lowers (or vice versa).

So, if you didn't make my mistake and actually DID have the tube installed, disregard this. But I did have the exact same problem you're describing (hammer getting hung up) until I realized what the tube was for and installed it.

By the way, Tapco SAYS that tube is there so that you can assemble your trigger group outside of the receiver, and then drop it in pre-assembled. But, they're telling a little white lie there - the only reason they do that is so that their parts are incompatible with the original FA fire control group.

Sorry for the delay I just got back from a camping trip. I'm a little disappointed It shot ok with the winchester I first tried, but it wants to jam almost every other shot with the Wolf ammo I got. The screws seem to be holding up fine, I don't think they will give me any problems.

I will try this and probably take it shooting this weekend.

I did the same thing at first but I realized before I took it shooting the first time.

Is it hanging on the trigger? Maybe the underpowered wolf doesn't compress the spring enough to give it enough energy to return to battery.
If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

The bolt carrier is hitting the hammer. I think the hook on the trigger isn't holding the hammer down far enough. I think that is the problem though because the winchester works fine (just to expensive).
