Info needed on the pictured rifle

I would love to build on of these for my first build. What parts does the upper assembly consist of?. Will it shoot as good as a varmint upper equiped rifle if I use great parts?. This thing gives me wood, please help with info. All I know is it is a SDM rifle in Iraq.

Looks like a standard M16A4 but with a personal free-float rail system. It's not the standard RAS, for sure. Can't speak for the scope. A4's are 20" uppers.

Easy enough to build, don't know if the free float gives it much better accuracy, since most A4s are essentially hand-me-downs and you don't know how the soldier before you treated it. Not well by the current or previous soldier based on the finish wear in the picture.

    Hope this helps.

Looks like a standard SMDR rifle, KAC FF handguards, some kind of scope on a Larue QD mount and a harris bipod on a larue mount

Check out wikipedia and search for "SDM-R". I believe it also lists the parts used in a standard SDM-R. I'm partial to the looks of the SAM-R myself

Circled area says "Live free or die" - It's a LaRue handguard, right?

Nevermind - looked like that's what it said if upside down, my "" is centered in the HG.

              SDM-R rail is a DD M4 12.0.

Find the full line of firearms, parts and accessories from Daniel Defense, including AR-15’s, AR-Pistols and Bolt Action Rifles for sport shooting and hunting.

The Daniel Defense 12.0 Free Float Rail System was the first handguard designed and bulit by Daniel Defense and it is a tremendous upgrade for users who require a light and rugged rifle with long range capability.

This rail is machined from the highest quality aircraft grade hardened aluminum yet it only weighs 13 ounces (including the threaded ring, barrel nut, and indexing pins)! The high strength and low weight of this remarkable handguard contributed greatly to its adoption by the United States Army for the Squad Designated Marksman Rifle program.

The Daniel Defense 12.0 rail system helped deploying Army units issue a squad level precision rilfe that bridges the gap between infantry rifleman and a battalion level sniper asset.
