First time shooting AR, problem.

Actually, the AR is not problem. It's scope's.

Before took down to the range today, I mounted the scope using this mount below and the scope high is perfect when I rested my cheek on the stock. However, at the range, I had to use the ear muff and couldn't rest my cheek on the stock. As a result, can't use scope. This is bench shoot.

How do you guys shoot with ear muff? Do you use much higher mount? If that, I don't see how to rest the cheek on the stock.

I have an adjustable cheek riser and I can set it wherever I want.

I hate using ear muffs when shooting a rifle; they just seem to get in my way.

I always try to use foam ear plugs when shooting a rifle now, I just find it more comfortable.

I use MSA sordin supreme pro-x low profile electronic muffs and foam plugs. The muffs don't interfere for me at all. Expensive, but worth it.

Use foam ear plugs. It's the least expensive fix to the issue. I hate earmuff ear pro, they get in way.

I had thought about the foam ear plugs. But the problem is I have a very sensitive ears. I use them both at the range .

I'm married with children. I not only have to wear ear plugs at work but I wear em to bed. My dog takes care of the house when I'm sleeping.

I have the exact same problem, I use ear plugs and really don't like shooting rifles.

Learn how to properly insert ear plugs and you will have no need of muffs. If you've been doing it for years like hpdad^ then you have to, but maybe perhaps not yourself. Done properly, even the cheap little foam ones are very effective unless you have large magnum rounds going off close to where you are.

Sometimes I double up in doors, but most of my shooting is outdoors and foamies work well for me.

I find foam ears to be very effective, and do a great job for me. You might want to watch this 3M video to make sure you are using foam ear protection correctly.

I used to have the same problem even with low pro earmuffs. But then I found that it wasn't my earmuffs, it was me. I guess I didn't have/or know how to correctly place my head on the stock so I can see the optic. I realize that its about cheek placement and not lay my whole head horizontally on the stock. Try lightly place your cheek on top of the stock while keeping your head vertical.
