Oh man, no competition at all, get the ATR. Good value, you get what you expect for a $300 rifle. The action is decent, the trigger heavy but predictable, accurate enough for hunting. The only issue i saw with it was the stock, just couldn't get a balanced grip on the rifle, but again its a 300 dollar gun and the stock is the most subjective part.

Now I have not ever fired a 770, but the 770 is just the new version of the 710. I have fired a 710 and is the worst bolt gun Remington has ever made. Horrible trigger, inconsistent and creepy. Action is not smooth and makes the simple task of cycling frustrating. I have also heard there are lots of problems with the magazine latch, so its better to load 1 at a time instead of relying on feeding from the mag. Its possible the 770 has changed all that, but I don't think so. I believe the only real difference is the 770 has a new stock.
