        C.S. Lewis once observed, "Once we allow people to start spiritualizing and refining, or as they might say 'deepening' the sense of the word Christian...it will become a useless word....It is not for us to say who, in the deepest sense, is or is not close to the spirit of Christ. We do not see into men's hearts. We cannot judge...It would be wicked arrogance for us to say that any man is, or is not, a Christian."

          Just remember - if you use a large amount it will just fling that much more debris at you if you have any nearby the tannerite.

          It is a total waste of money - just like bumpfiring - I don't know why I can't stop smiling though

            We play with the stuff every time out shooting. The youtube video's don't do justice to what the concussion and sound is like in person.

              Tannerite consists of two components, a sensitizer and a bulk material. The bulk material is a mixture of ammonium nitrate and ammonium perchlorate, while the sensitizer is a mixture of dark flake aluminium powder and a small amount of zirconium hydride.

                    Googled:

                    AN = Ammonium Nitrate
                    NOT urea nitrate or sulfate.

                    AL = ALUMINUM POWDER

                    100g AN mixed with 5g AL

                    Go purchase a cheap blender (actually buy 2) at Wal-Mart for $13.95. It's a good idea not to use the same blender you used for the AN because it can cause contamination.

                    I purchased Wallgreens instant cold ice packs. Twin packs for $4.99 ea. Each ice pack contains a water bag and Ammonium Nitrate. Just remove the water bag. You want prelled, Not crystalized AN. GET A GOOD SCALE.

                    The aluminum powder is alumaseal or bars stop leak. At $2.59 for 25 grams. If you get bars be sure it in aluminium powder. There are different kinds of bars stop leak and one looks like an AL powder container, But the contents are dirt brown. Don't use that one.

                    Grind the AN to the consistancy of table salt. And SEPARATELY grind the AL to the consistancy of flour.

                    Since AN is actually pretty stable until around 840 degrees Fahrenheit the heat generated in the blender will not set it off. But to be safe do this in a well venlated area with NO open flames. Even sawdust is will explode when ignited!

                    Store it in in an airtight container because it is hydrosorbic meaning it sucks up the moisture from the air. You can tell if its absorbed moisture from the air if it is clumped together in hard clumps. If this happens break the clumps apart and dry it out.

                    Using a 20-ounce coke bottle with screw on top works best. Pour the amounts into the container and shake them up until they are mixed together. Remember once you mix them together you must use them at the site. You cannot drive or store the stuff mixed together.

                    Now once the stuff is mixed the only way you can set it off is by shooting it with a .223 or above rifle or a number 8 blasting cap. Don't try setting it on fire, it makes a big gooey mess and around 840 degrees Fahrenheit nasty things can happen.

                    Once you have the stuff at the place you want to shoot it get back about at least 100 yards.
                    .
                    the 34-0-0 designation is a FERTILIZER designation.

                    34 nitrogen (N), 0 phosphorus (P), 0 potassium (K)

                    That is 34% nitrogen in the form of ammonium nitrate.

                    We arent really concerned with the percentage of nitrogen, however, the higher the nitrogen percentage, the more "bang for the buck" sadly, the 34-0-0 mix is the best you can get... and it works... thats what COMMERCIAL BLASTING companies use for major earth moving projects.

                      Guilty!! But in all honesty, I expected some huge explosion with flames spewing before I clicked the video lol. What is the composition of this stuff anyways ? looks like Ammonium Nitrate.

                      I haven't played with explosives since jr high. One of my neighbors was highly into making explosives out of the chemicals he would steal from his dad's lab. At first we would fill balloons with pure oxygen and blow up mailboxes, that lead to filling up garbage bags and setting them off in the horse trails. At some point I remember him showing me about 10lbs of PETN and quite a bit of Acetone peroxide. Few days later, a huge explosion rocked the neighborhood because he and my other neighbor decided to blow up his tree house with all the PETN he made. I might add that it was a residential area. Crazy mofo. They both got arrested (13 yrs old) and sent to military school or something, and ended up going to M.I.T.

                      Sorry if its off topic. All this chemical talk just brings up fun times as a kid.

                        Oh I agree, we were crunched for time and didn't want to make the 30 minute trek back to civilization to get bigger bottles... Maybe when I'm up in the area we'll do much better

                          I used to think the same way as you, until I experienced it first hand at the Area 52 shoot. Other than meeting the Cal Gunners that went, that was my second best experience. Like DrunkSkunk said, that stuff is addicting..

                            I hope y'all are talking about using/acquiring/possessing Tannerite outside CA borders.

                            Tannerite & its components, esp if in containers, are of very questionable legality in CA. I have seen no letter from any appropriate authority saying it's exempt from treatment as an explosive.

                            I would specifically discount anything Tannerite has to say about CA legalities as they're using Oregon lawyers.
