you're inserting incorrectly, you need to insert further in and "up" at an angle

into the opening of the receiver. Basically not through the rear slot that the CH rides in but into the hole of the bolt carrier

put the charging handle in the same hole as the BCG and only put it in a inch and them go up,those ears slip into a slot so it fits into the upper above the BCG.

so under,in and up and your good!

lol... If this is your first AR, then this may be a good idea since there is a good chance,, you are doing it wrong.

I'm not sure if this is a defect with the receiver, the charging handle or if fitting is required to make this function properly.
