    Having AR issues! HELP!

Took my new AR build out yesterday to the range for the first time.. I encountered 1 problem.. When I was shooting, it would randomly lock the bolt back and not feed the next round then it would shoot 2 to 3 rounds and the same problem... all i would have to do was release the bolt then it would feed the next round... (so basically it was locking the bolt like if the mag was out of rounds) Anyone have any suggestions or why its doing it?

I am using a CMMG 16'' barrel upper and the magazine was a pmag 10rd

    Thanks!

Have you tried it with any other mags? Theres a chance that the pmag might not be fitting in properly and then when the gun is moving around the bolt catch is in such a position to hold open. I would definitely narrow your troubleshooting to the bolt catch or mag.

Did you build the lower yourself? My friend's rifle was doing the same thing because he forgot to install the bolt catch plunger.

Another thing to look at is the magazine lock (AKA Bullet Button)
I had an issue like this I was using the magazine lock that came with the wonder wrench $20.00 it would not lock the magazine in properly and I changed to a Radlock and have had no other problems.

I was having the same problem and for me it was my gas block. I installed adjustable low profile gas block and it wasn't align and it blocked the little hole on the gas block.

I could see that causing short stroking but not bolt hold open...

the Bullet Button might be at fault too...if its not allowing mag to seat properly...

                Just another consideration

Maybe you're holding your rifle all weird and are touching the bolt catch

As mentioned it could be that you forgot to put in the plunger spring as well

Are you using a bad lever?

And I installed it correctly.. spring and plunger are both in.. I have noticed that my MAG Lock is a little loose.. I am going to try tightening it and see if that helps..

Thanks for all the help guys!

its not the mag lock. its the bad lever. remove the bad lever, if the problem goes away you need a stronger bolt release/ lock spring. Its possible you used the wrong spring if you built it yourself. I have heard of that. Its also possible whoever made it used a spring that was too short.

It is the bad lever. The weight is pulling down on the bolt release just as you would be doing to lock the bolt back.

Ive actually noticed the BAD Lever its a little loose also.. it wiggles.. so how would i be able to tighten the bolt release?

The BAD will extenuate any play in the Bolt release. You actually want it to be be easy to move, not stiff, but not too wiggly either.

It (The bolt Release) needs a longer, stiffer spring. The buffer might be too small also. I have seen this happen when people do not install a buffer with the spring. Its a very small part and people think the little spring doesnt need it. It does. It not only provides added length, it allows the Bolt release arm to move freely.

I would take the Bolt release apart and examine the parts. Check the buffer in there and the spring.

                            Who built this lower?
