    Recommendations: scope mount needed

Back in December, I bought a Dpms LR-.308 (with picatinny rail mount) and the Nikon M-223 2.5-10X-40mm Laser IRT scope feature in this month's issue of American Hunter.

The scope is wonderful, but as the author of the article points out, the mount is garbage. It has come loose every single time I've gone to the range. I don't like using 6 shots ($5-6) every time. I've tried blue threadlock, it STILL comes loose!

Can someone who has had this problem recommend a good scope mount? I've heard Leupold makes good ones. It needs to attach to a picatinny rail. Thanks!

Larue and ADM make good mounts, but they're a little pricey.

Larue Lt-104 for 5.56. Maybe something different for a 308. Surf around Larue website. It will be the last mount you'll ever buy

Looks like an integral mount, similar to a ACOG. Standard mounts for a 1" or 30mm scope are not going to work with that. If the integral setup is the same dimensions as an ACOG or AR carry handle mount, there are several manufacturers that make setups for that application that might work. Can you post some pics and measurements of the integral base on the scope?

I have the Leupold Mark 2 rail mount and find it to be very high quality. It's on a .450 Bushmaster upper and has not come loose after many rounds.
I am also building a 308 and planning on using the same mount.

BUT - it doesn't look like it will fit the Nikon scope you have. Only a 1" or 30mm as FMJBT mentioned. From the reviews I've read, people seem to love the scope, but hate the mount. You might look at getting some higher quality fasteners. I couldn't find any pictures of the integral mount, so maybe you could post a pic or two.

Check out Optics planet they have a slew of scope mounts from the moderate price range to the ridicously expensive ones.

This mount from Vortex Optics has been SOLID...

Have not had any problems with it since purchasing it last year.

I liked it because it does not have big obnoxious knobs that can become loosened.

Thanks fmjbt. That's helpful. It does look like an integral mount.
Good luck with that. I'd say your sol. Sorry I can't be more help. That'll teach you to just buy a regular scope next time, sorry

Buy once, cry once. Larue and ADM are both great mounts. Larue always sends a bunch of free stuff with their mounts too!

I don't have a URL to post images from. As the image posted by FMJBT shows, the tapered shape of the front end of the scope prevents the use of most scope mounts.

from the limited pictures I can find online of one of these mounted, it appears to be very similar to an ACOG style mount. Many other optics also use this style of mount, as it was originally designed to mount into the channel in the top of an M16 carrying handle. If Nikon was smart, they designed the base of the IRT scope to this spec. If they were smart.....

I'd suggest taking the scope into a local gun store and trying out some of the QD mounts designed for the ACOG to see if they will fit. ARMS, ADM, and LaRue make some very high quality mounts for the ACOG that may very well fit up to the integral base on the Nikon.
