After my barrel was shortened, I can get 2-3 MOA from my Mini-14.

I also have a ASI. Got it for 3 gun.
      18" BBL. 1" for 4" .90" to the gas block. .750 to end. 1 in 9 twist.
Flutted. Varmit brake, Not too heavy.
      Custom stock, trigger work.
      Scoped. Simmons Diamond Pro 1.5-5
Shoots about 1-1 1/4" with most factory ammo.
Not problem hitting 10 steel plates at 325 yds. (68 gr. Black Hills)
I was able to run with the big dogs with this set up at the 3 gun nationals.
      Love the gun.
      Also check out perfectunion.com
      Mini 14 section.
All the information you will ever want to know about the Mini 14/30
I am also thinking about a MIA for the Heavy Metal Division.
      18" Scout, not the 16"SOCOM.
As others have stated, they are 2 different guns.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting
