KG coating in Socal

Anyone know where I can get a barrel KG coated in OD green? I would prefer somewhere withing 30-40 miles from Fontana. My barrel is already KG coated in Desert Tan but I would like it in a different color. The barrel is not installed yet. So no disassembly of the upper is needed. I don't know if the old cating has to be stripped off or if it can be sprayed over. Please e-mail me any info. Thanks.

has the original KG Coat been cured- meaning baked? If it's been heat cured, then this changes the property of the coating and it will no longer dissolve in MEK, acetone..etc... If this is the case, youll have to agressively clean the surface using a blasting cabinet..

But if it's not, then you can strip the paint using conventional methods..acetone, paint remover..etc etc.

Also, is your barrel stainless steel or regular steel?

If it's stainless, then it'd be easy to handle and recoat... Personally, I strongly recommend a blasting cabinet.. even if you dont have to remove any of the finish this way..it roughens up the surface quite nicely.. so that the KG has something to adhere to..

If it's blued steel or has been parkerized..ugh..i'd blast it..repark it carefully and then spray it.. this is the ideal way of doing it.. parkerizing is super easy...but you'll need a tank thats large enough to dunk the barrel in..

It's all pretty easy, the only real pain is in the preparation= blasting all the old stuff off and making sure theres no grease/oil anywhere...

spraying takes like 10 minutes..everything else seems to take forever..

I believe it has been cured already. When I bought the barrel last year it included the KG coating but I have since changed my mind in the color I want to build my upper. It is a stainless 16" NOVESKE PAC NOR SPR Barrel. I don't have access to a blasting cabinet. Do you know anywhere I can go to get this done Pistolkidd? Thanks for the reply.

Many machine shops and gunsmiths have blasting cabinets. I've just taken whatever piece I needed blasted to my 'smith, and he's done it for a fairly nominal fee.
