    New colt 6940!

Just picked up my new colt! As soon as I got home I started modifying it. Here she is before....

And after....I'm waiting on a trijicon RMR as well as a inforce HSP WML w/offset mount. I am also gonna add a Troy single point sling adapter and I'm probably gonna change the ergo grip for a magpul K grip. Let me know what you think! Any advice on more parts? Lol also if anyone hasn't picked up the B.A.D. A.S.S. short throw (45 degree) safety, you should really look into it! It is awesome! It allows me to rest my thumb on the safety just like a 1911

Having owned one, I went back to a 6920, but the 6940 is a nice rifle.

I assume you went back to the 6920 because of the versatility with the upper?

        Yes, precisely.

I have always been partial to Colt rifles, and the 6940 is a great piece of hardware, but having owned the gas piston and direct impingement version, I quickly learned that the 6940 is not a piece of hardware that will evolve with the operator, shooter, enthusiast, or hobbyist. Having a rigid, perfectly aligned, continuous rail is great, but the same can be had with an aftermarket rail system.

Personally, since I shoot with my support hand fully extended, the 7.0"x2.32" rail system was far too short, and somewhat bulky. Since I use an ACOG with short eye relief, that limited the amount of extension I could use in the buttstock to offset the lack of real estate available in the shorter rail system.

When I previously owned a 6920 (and own one again now), I switched from the 16.1" standard barrel, to a 14.5" barrel, and eventually purchased a 6921 upper, but the point is, since the 6940 uses proprietary barrel and gas tube dimensions, it is not interchangeable.

If Keymod rail systems continue to grow, and I suspect they will, quad picatinny rails systems may become slightly outdated. I have a Daniel Defense Lite Rail on my Colt now, but can easily transition to the Keymod system if it becomes necessary, or in my best interest to do so.

For recreational shooters, bench shooters, or collectors, it doesn't matter, but if you train with your firearm, it's definitely something to consider when dealing with fixed, proprietary components, although like my case, there are many variables.

Regardless, the 6940 is phenomenal acquisition.

Great info right there!, thank you!

That is what I love about the AR platform. Everything is interchangeable. If/when the key mod rail system begins to to pick up more steam I will possibly consider selling my upper. I do like the look of the key mod as well as its funtionality. it allows you to remove unnecessary pieces of rail and place them where you want them while reducing weight as well. But for now ill have fun with my 6940 lol.

It's a Raptor, and it is glorious. I have one both of my ARs and just put one on my duty rifle last week. After using one, everything else feels bad to me.
