I posted this on another forum, but I thought that I would post it here too.
I work part time in a gun store and every once in a while some real interesting things will come through the door.
Last week this large box showed up from the US Army. Inside was this M24 sniper rifle that the Army was selling (via a lottery) to those individuals that were snipers, or had attended the sniper school. They are doing this because they are phasing out the M24 in favor of their newest model. It was sent to the store so the DROS could processed.
The rifles are mechanically gone through, but the cosmetics are left as-is. What is especially cool about this one is that it still marked as to the unit it had been issued to, in this case Co. C 1/4 Cav., a unit that has a history that goes back to before the Civil War.
