Can I legally build AR-15 Pistol in 300AAC?

I know a few people on this board used either 80% or 0% to built AR-15 pistol in 223 caliber and utilize the SSE route to work around the CA roster issue. However, based on my research, 300AAC works much better in 10" barrel configuration than 223. I rather have a useful firearm than a simple flame thrower.

Before I let this idea go any further, can I legally build a AR-15 pistol in 300AAC using the same SSE work around? Or must I first build it with 223 upper in SSE mode then convert it by switching the upper or the barrel to 300AAC?

    Thanks a bunch!!

Caliber won't matter as far as an SSE is concerned.

You can build your pistol to any caliber you want right from the start. Only thing stopping me from going 300blk is the availability of ammo and even the ammo components to reload.

Sure can. Just like everybody else saying ammo available is crazy.

Thanks for the warning about 300AAC's availability. Since I'm already reloading 223, the cost is going to minimal to re-tool my setup to load 300AAC. The matter of fact, I think the cost per round may actually be little cheaper. 300AAC uses just bit less powder.

Interesting. 50 Beo for AR.... Now, that's another idea.

Freedom munitions seems to have 300 blackout ammo in stock now more often than not I think $600/1000.
