Both will do that just fine.

The MP10 comes with a crappy stock and a bullet button. However if you get an MP10 on a deal...put a set of free floating handguards on it, a better trigger and a stock like the magpul CTR...basically throw 400-450 bucks at it...you can have a really nice setup. Also ARs are inherently accurate and scoping it is a breeze.

The M1A scout is nice, but optics on M1As are a crap shoot. I tried several mounts and spent a lot of frustrated days at the range wasting time and ammo before I got mine running to my satisfaction with a scope mount. Accuracy isn't as good as my previous 308 ARs, 1.5MOA on a good day. However if you don't want to scope it and you don't care if your groups are 2" then the M1A has good iron sights (like a garand) and balances well offhand with the wood stock.

That's my take on them anyways.

I went with the M1A even though the ergonomics and scope mounting options are better on the AR platform.

My M1A Scout is bone stock and has been flawless. I don't care much for how the mags load into the gun but it's accuracy and reliability make up for this small personal complaint. Not having to use a BB is also a nice break from the insanity. The iron sights are very nice but I'm considering the Leatherwood
2-7 LER scope because sometimes magnification is nice for my older eyes.

Besides, real wood and real steel is always damn awesome on a firearm..

Op: M1A. It's time tested design that's still being used today. It would be cool to hear from the Veterans returning from forward deployment as to whether the " Modernized Garand " was helpful to them personally. More importantly, welcome home to you guys!

ps. Does anyone have the MIA Scout in the Walnut stock that they want to divest?... haha. I had to put that out there.

Punching paper and slapping plates? Bolt action Weatherby Vanguard or Savage. One third the cost of the others and scope is easy to mount.

M1A, all the way. It's the most fun I've ever had at the range. Make sure you get the Scout in WALNUT!!!

I'd go with an M1A. Great gun.
