What do you guys think about the Cimarron 1873 short .357?

I've been wanting a levergun for a long time, and figured that I will get one as a present to myself for my Honorable Discharge coming up in September.

I talked to my guy at the LGS today and he recommended Cimarron to me. After looking through their online catalog, the one I am most interested in is the Model 1873 short, chambered in .357 to pair with my S&W Model 27.

Does anyone have any experience with their products? I am not worried about the price because I plan on having it a lifetime and passing it on after I am gone.

No experience with Cimarron or 73s. But I do support the choice from an aesthetic standpoint. It sure looks good!

I also like the way the "short rifle" looks compared to the carbine. More sturdy.

I've been looking at the same firearm. The Cimarron guns are made by Uberti. Cimarron gets to specify what they want and in some cases they do some work on them after they arrive here in the US. The 357 chambered 1873 rifles are heavily used in Cowboy shooting and are very well regarded.

The problem is that the popularity means they are in high demand. I talked to my LGS who is a Cimarron dealer and while I was there they called up Cimarron and asked about lead times. For the short 357 rifle it is 6-12 months.

I have not ordered one yet. First because I'd prefer to hold one and make sure it fits before dropping that much money on it. Second because I'm still open to what caliber I buy. I intend match it with some time of single action pistol using the same ammo. Third reason is that none of the laws proposed in California would restrict my ability to buy and own a lever gun so I can afford to wait.

I have not personally shot one, but I see them in the cowboy shooting events. The looks are outstanding, and I assume they perform well...I say, go for it!

I have an uberti imported by cimarron and it is a beautiful rifle. The wood is gorgeous and shoots great too

Cimarron does nice work. I've been to their retail outlet in Fredericksburg "Texas Jack's". Their SAAs are the top of the pile since USFA left the scene. The Taylor's & Co. Ones are nice, also.
