Lefty Conversion Clarification

After purchasing a R-handed OLL and then building another one, both in 5.56, I have decided that it would be sick (as in BRD) to have a Left-Handed 6.8SPC (I am left-handed BTW )

As I do not have the fundage for another complete build, I want to go the route of purchasing an upper--I have searched the topic, and I think I have the basic idea of what to do. However, I just want to double check with you guys prior to breaking out the credit card--Here is my plan:

*Start with my previous standard 5.56 lower

*Purchase Stag 6.8SPC upper (Lefty model)

*Purchase magazines made for 6.8SPC

*Enjoy


A couple of questions:

--Are there any issues with the bolt catch being on the opposite side when using righty lower?

--Can a 10rd 6.8SPC mag. hold 5.56 rounds, and thus possibly be misconstrued as an illegal hi-cap?

--Are there any issues with the bolt catch being on the opposite side when using righty lower? No. My Stag 2HTL is setup this way. It works just fine.

--Can a 10rd 6.8SPC mag. hold 5.56 rounds, and thus possibly be misconstrued as an illegal hi-cap? No. Just don't put 5.56 rounds into it. Make sure it's marked as a 6.8SPC on the mag somehow. I've seen pictures of similar mags already on the forum.

So the 6.8 SPC mags will allow the 5.56 rounds to feed properly/smoothly ?--I think you answered this, but just wanted to clarify this part a little further.

Looking forward to not getting burned anymore!--I've got a couple of tiny scars on the sides of my head/face where bouncing casings lodged in my eye protection.

Technically, there's no law against using different ammo in a mag and having more than 10 rounds fit the mag.
The mags just can't hold more than 10 rounds of the ammo they were DESIGNED/SOLD to hold.
That's why everyone wants to buy 10 round 458 Socom mags.
You can fit 30 rounds of 223 in them and technically, they are still 10 round mags.

Trinydex: Pretty sure that's a negative there (unless you feel comfortable proving that you purchased a hi-cap in .458 SOCOM prior to the ban--this may be difficult, as I don't believe that this cal existed then--anyone else want to chime in on this one).

So don't use them as .223, is what I would say. Maybe ARBBls meant that it's just nice to know you could use it both ways if SHTF?

There are no large capacity 458 mags unless you count the MGW drum or any of the various 40 round 223 magazines.
It uses a regular 30 round 223 mag and only holds 10 rounds of 458.
20 round 223 mags hold 7 rounds of 458.

So, buy all the 7 round 458 mags and 10 round 458 mags you want.
Just make sure you have a way to prove they are 458 mags and not 223 mags.
