Angeles Shooting Range Steel Target Sizes

If you've ever wondered what sizes the steel is out to 600 yards here it is. I found it quite useful today hitting the 400yard rectangle with my Ruger American .308.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

The big circle at 600 for reference compared to a person:

The little yellow plate is a 6" plate that we set there as a comparison of what a 1moa target looks like vs the Angeles steel.

Thanks. It looks like they did not include some the the hanging steel on this list though. I really want to know the sizes of those.

I hit that 14" pig with my mini once, yeah that's right one in a 5 round group. In my defense it was after 100 or so rounds killing the 100 yard target on the other side.

But thanks, i always wanted to know the target sizes.

The hanging plates are much newer than when that sheet was made.
If you look at the sheet, it is from when the steel was new!
That was a long time ago...

Are the hanging plates at least smaller? I'm moving to la and can't stand the idea of shooting barn sized plates at mid range. Does everyone basically use iron sights?

I was the one who asked Kevin to put some smaller targets out at the 500 and 600 yard berms, and Kevin agreed to move some of the 4-target stands over from the 400 yard berm. I wanted 1/2 MOA targets, but they don't have any smaller that 1 MOA at ASR (they have to accommodate the majority of shooters so most of what they have at ASR are MOA+). Kevin showed me what they had, and there were only had a few small targets (one 6" square and one 8" square). While these are still too big for my liking, they're smaller than the other steel.

Anyway, Kevin had both of these were hung at the 600 yard berm. The 6" (1 MOA at 600 yards) was hung horizontally with two attachment points. The problem with that setup was that a perfect center hit swings the plate backwards and wraps the chains around the crossbar, eliminating that plate for the rest of the day. I learned that with my first shot at that target.

Unfortunately, when I went to ASR last week the 6" square was no longer there. Some jackass with a heavy caliber had shot it and broke the weld for the chain. The 8" square is single point mounted on a diagonal, so even a dead center hit typically just spins the plate. Lastly, there's some huge freaky-shaped plate that looks like a psychedelic inverted "U" with a hole in the middle. I was shooting through the hole in that target after I wrapped the 6" square's chain around the crossbar with my first shot.

Next time I head up to Angeles I'll try to remember to MIL the swingers on the 4-target swinger stands at 500 and 600 yards. It's hard to get to the range with my daughter out of school because she'd rather sleep-in and stay in the house with the AC on instead of getting-up early and going to the range. After I've MIL'ed them I'll post the sizes in this thread.

The 6" plate at 600 was on the ground Saturday night when we there setting up our club steel for Sundays match.
                    I re-hung it Saturday night.
The pin that holds the chain had just vibrated out...

If anyone wants to measure all the small plates, you are welcome to help us setup steel on the 500 and 600 lines the Saturday evening before the 4th Sunday of any month.
We head out right when the line shuts down at 5:45pm.
