New to me Marlin 336 30-30

I finally reached a point in life where my step dad has decided to hand me down his hunting rifle. This is my first lever action and is completely bone stock with the exception of a sling. This gun has taken more game than I can count.

The serial indicates it was made in 1973 and the stock definitely shows the wear and tear of being in the woods.

I can't wait to get some ammo to take her shooting.

nice looking rifle . How do you like the scope up so high ? Does it fit you well . It looks like it would be to tall for me .

She's a beauty, and the action is probably as smooth as butter after the use she has had.

Yeah, 30-30 has been really difficult to find lately, so when I found about this stuff 2 days ago, I bought some (and it still appears to be in stock):
Prvi Partizan 30‑30 Winchester Ammunition 150 Grain Flat Soft Point – PP30301 for sale at Target Sports USA. Enjoy free shipping on bulk 30-30 Winches|^||^|

I've had some issues with this vendor in the past, but I tried them again, and I got my shipping notification today. So maybe they've gotten over the problems caused by the ammo rush.

I believe those are "see thru" scope rings.

The height is okay for me so far but I havent spent a ton of time on the the gun yet. The scope mount is a see thru type, irons are visible and usable should the scope fail.

Very smooth action. The rifle hasn't been cleaned in a year or two since my step dads nuropathy (SP) hit

I will try to find some time to break her down. I already decided that she isnt going to get a makeover, she is gonna stick with the well used look. Gives her soul I think.

looks great for being produced in 1973!

Mine is just as old, and looks 40 years older than that!

I have a 336 but in .35 caliber, really nice rifle. Hitting a coyote with it has to be seen to be believed, last one I hit took it right off the ground and sent it over backwards like it got hit with a freight train! I never put a scope on mine cuz the coyotes just love to come in close.

I have one in 30-30 also, but it doesn't have the heritage yours has.
I've been seeing 30-30 ammo in my local Walmart.

Just remember that a 30-30 absolutely must have flat nosed bullets.

Try and envision a tube full of pointed ammo when the recoil hits...each point contacting the primer in front of it !!!

The scope rings are an old idea, if your scope crapped out you could go to your irons. That things real canon! Reload for it I've got a load for a friends that shoots sub minute Geo's.

I have one almost identical except mine does not have the scope yet. I have had it for probably 25 years and is one of my favorite of all my arms.

                        Congrats

I also have a Marlin 30-30 and absolutely love it- I think it is something that everyone needs in their safe.

Congratulations. I know you will enjoy it. Personally, I'd lose the scope.

I got the sister to your's, also a '73. Awesome rifle you will grow to love, this was the first of my levers, and my favorite. many years of trouble free service.
