I freely admit I know next to nothing about 22LR ammo. I know there are types that do not function in a semi auto however. I have a 10/22 in jail at the moment and need to get some ammo. Using http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/22lr or any other means, can someone make a recommendation for a good general purpose plinking round as well as a small game round. Thanks!

Usually best to avoid subsonic rounds for semi autos.
I'm a big fan of CCI. Most guns seem to run well with it. But really you are going to have to do some of your own testing because every gun behaves differently, especially 22s.

Avoid any box of .22LR with the word Colibri on it. Colibri type ammo has no gun powder and won't cycle your semi-auto properly.
Now, if you had a .22 LR revolver or one of those .22LR Crickett bolt action rifles, yeah, the Colibri would be a fine and a very quiet shooting experience.

Some 22 rifles are fussy as to the ammo they want to shoot. Others are not. My 10/22 is not and my other 5 are not also. I shhot what I can get usually but have a large stockpile, from years ago, of rem bulk packs and win bulk packs. As I remember my 10/22 does not like to cycle the CCI Stingers but will cycle the rem hyper speed rounds.
I suggest just using 22 Long Rifle high spped ammo.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Where ya located at? If you're anywhere near me, I'll give ya a bunch of different types so you can find one you like.
As for killing small stuff, I really like the CCI segmented rounds. If you want quiet, get the 710 fps ones, but you'll have to manually cycle them...but they sure do knock stuff down nice.Comment

10/22 will pretty much take anything. Bulk, CCI whatever. It's usually the more modern rimfire pistols that are picky with ammo. Like the various 1911 22LR conversions, which pretty much require CCI MiniMag (or anything with similar muzzle energy) to cycle properly.Comment
