Noveske upper Recce (VIS, Low Pro, NSR) what do you have why do you like

I've been trying to find a 16 in stock w/ 13.5 nsr for two months. Not having much luck. -
Your gonna need at least $1500 for a complete upper bro.Comment

NSR has the smallest outer diameter and lightest weight.Comment

I bought the regular 16" Noveske (middy) reece about 1.5 years ago & love it! 850$ or so! Rainierarms complete upper, came with the 3 prong AAC, Bolt carrier group, BCM handle with noveske logo etc. No rail, I had them install a MOE vs the standard handguard. I never picked up my DD AR again, only to sell it.Last edited by SB1964; 06-25-2013, 10:29 PM.Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!Comment

When I bought my Noveske, the NSR wasn't available yet. If it were, it would have been my choice. As it were, I went with the default choice which was a railed front made by SWS which I'm pretty happy with. The thing with all those rails is you'll need ladders or rail covers if you don't want your hand all chewed up. That's why I like the NSR option.NRA Benefactor Life Member

I have the 14.5" Lo Pro upper, which has the Noveske spec'd SWS qual rails and welded AAC Blackout. It's pretty heavy so I got a Magpul ACS stock to balance out the rifle. The total weight of the rifle is 8 lbs. unloaded without optic.
For my next build, I'm planning to get the N4 Light Basic upper (when I can find one in stock) and swap the handguards out for an Omega lightweight rail.Last edited by teflondog; 06-26-2013, 10:26 AM.Originally posted by G. I've had 6 different Noveske uppers/rifles.
Two had LaRue Tactical handguards on them - one 16" mid-length with a 9" rail and one 16" mid-length with a 13" rail.
Two had the factory SWS handguards on them - 16" Light Resse Lo-Pro Rifles.
One had a VTAC modular handguard on it - an 18" intermediate-length SS SPR with 12" handguard.
One had the basic handguards which were swapped for a Daniel Defense Omega Rail - a 14.5" Carbine Basic
Ultimately I liked the 14.5" Carbine Basic with DD Omega rail the best. It really offered the most flexibility for me. The LaRue handguards were solid, but heavy. The factory SWS handguards were relatively light and fairly slim profile. The VTAC was nice without the rails, but was also pretty heavy - though for that one it didn't really matter as it was a bench gun.
It really depends on what you want to do with the rifle. I've found that rarely is one setup good for everything. Ultimately I've sold all of my Noveskes.Comment

I used to have the VIS in different lengths (7, 9 and 10), but ended up selling them all. While being a bit on the heavy side, there was nothing wrong with them, I just ended up ditching quad-rails for slick-side rails. It saves on weight and I really didn't need all that rail space anyway.Comment

The idea of "better" is relative to your desired usage. That's why I stated the choice depends on what you want to do with the rifle and the fact that I've found that rarely is one setup good for everything. Some of the contributing factors were utility, value, and configuration. Space in the safe was also a consideration.
For my SPR I found that rather than Noveske's intermediate-length gas system I preferred to have a rifle-length gas system with a JP Enterprises adjustable gas block.
For the other rifles I elected to go with LMT's MRP platform as it allowed me to have multiple configuration options with variable calibres, barrel material, barrel length, gas system, gas legth, etc.Comment

Thanks everyone for weighing in. I was already leaning towards the 16" light recce with NSR and am now in the market for one. If anyone has a 16" light Recce with NSR complete rifle or upper they'd be willing to part with please let me know, just bought my chainsawed GenII lower so I need something to put on top of it. Also of interest is the 18" Rogue hunter or NST with the light contour barrel and rifle length gas system (I think that's the longer gas system, right?,...help someone) also with the NSR rail. Thanks for the help everyone.Comment
