Anyone use the CATM4 tool for their AR?

Is it worth it? I see what it does and often wonder if the same results can be with some of the normal brushes, patches, solvents and cleaning accessories that I already have

Even if it works as advertised, is it worth buying? Nearly $40.00 to say I have one?

I have the clone of it which Botach sells. Yes, it is very useful for cleaning your bolt, especially.

IMO it is not needed unless you have to please a drill instructor.
Everything that comes in a standard G.I. metal rod cleaning kit will do what that can do.
*I have never seen the "need" to scrape the bore of a carrier or tail of a bolt.
*Bolt tail can be cleaned with fired 556/223 case mouth anyway.
You can use firing pin to clean bolt lugs also.

        However it does look cool.

I have the one from GNG Tools and definitely worth it. You're talking about less than 10 seconds of work for a tool that's less than $30. That is nothing.

I just use the wire barrel brush tip that screws onto a rod. I find 9mm is a good size. I just hold the threads as a little handle and brush that area of the bolt with some Hoppes

$40 seems a bit steep, sure you can't find it anywhere else for less?

It's a very nifty all-in-one tool for cleaning your bolt.

The winners of the All Army Service and Combat Matches, all members of the California National Guard, all use the CAT4.

I showed them mine, they all bought their own.

It's quick and easy. Great little tool. Won't clean as thoroughly as using brushes and stuff tho.

Cleaning the bolt tail is a waste of time because it's not important to the function of the rifle. But if you just enjoy cleaning for the sake of cleaning, have at it.

I bought one recently so i have only used it a few times but at the moment i do not feel that it was worth the money. The scraping end dose not match up with parts of the radius of my bolt so i still have to use other tools for that part. The firing pin cleaning hole seams kind of pointless as well, not sure what im missing there.

If i was cleaning my rifle in a more precarious situation and or trying to save weight for a travel kit i could see its multi tool functionality being more useful.

-btw i had not though of using a shell casing, good idea.

I do kind of like the attitude of Hickok 45 when it comes to cleaning an AR...he makes it look fun somehow too
