    Bore guide to clean ARs?

It is necessary to use a bore guide to clean ARs? Is a aluminum or brass cleaning rod really going to damage the chamber and throat of the barrel?

I've never used one on any rifle and was browsing midway and found this JP Enterprise AR bore guide, just wondering if its a worth while tool to have?

    I use the Sinclair:

And yes, it's extremely recommended to use a bore guide, especially with 22cal rifles. Particularly, rods for 22cal bores will flex a lot.

I have never used one. I alternate with bore snake and cleaning rods. Never worried about hurting my bore/barrel/chamber.

I also use the Sinclair. It's more than just a bore guide, the "lube slot" is great.

In what situation would you need a bore guide if you clean using a bore snake? Seems unnecessary to me. And if you're not using a bore snake... why not?

I use one, but don't remember the brand.

I don't think they are necessary if you use a coated rod.

I have one...never used it. I have an Otis Tactical kit and use the puller to pull brushes and patches thru the barrel

I wouldn't use a bore snake unless I was in the field, and didn't have a rod on me.

Other than that, a rod with a proper bronze core/bristle brush and patches are the way to go to properly clean a bore.

I think this is totally up to you. I have the JP and I really like it. Much better to me than the ones like the Sinclair suggested in previous posts.

Bore snakes are nice, but sometimes I don't want a brush going down my bore. Many times I just use patches and mops until my precision begins to really suffer.

My buddy made me a custom one, before AR guides were common. I always use it.

Get one. Sinclair is what I use, I've seen many others and can't notice a difference. The major difference comes between the bore snake and proper brushes with a Dewey or BoreTech rod.
