        You're welcome.

It's a little of an information overload at first, but read, read, read. I know you'll find someone making furniture for the Saiga.

It's not that bad only a mother could love it though...you could replace the front forearm with a standard ak forearm from k-var tapco etc. with a retainer.... as for the stock there is only one option in the stock config and that is the optional choate thumbhole style or maybe you could get some wood....or you could just do a full ak conversion hope this helps.+1 for saiga12.com

lol ye true bout only a mother could love. I guess looks should be the least of my concern, reliability should always come first.

But wow the stock reminds of the daisy BB gun my dad gave me when i was a kid

Does an ugly furniture mean a bad rifle?

I don't mind the black poly furniture that comes with the gun as long as it goes bang everytime I pull the trigger.

Speaking of that furniture, I actually like that its stock is longer than standard AK or RPK stocks.

Personally, I'd be happy if I could just find a forward rail mount (scount mount).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally like the handguard on a Saiga over the std. AK furniture. The rear stock isn't the best, but it's legal w/o any question. Your choices have pretty much been laid out for you in the previous posts.

For furniture, you can go with AK/Galil style handguards and a Dinzag retainer to get rid of the front handguard. The stock gets a little trickier. If you want to be able to drop mags without a maglock, you need to negate any thumb-hole or pistol grip options. There are a couple of thumbhole options out there that are Saiga specific (because the trigger sets where the pistol grip would on a normal AK) and if you filled those in, you'd be on your way.

If it were me, I'd move the trigger to the std AK location, fill in a Dragunov stock http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=40758 and choose whatever you like for handguards to round it out.

With regard to a rail, the only offerings that are really out there either sit on the gas tube, or the top handguard. Both setups leave something to be desired in terms of stability for an optics platform. The only semi-stable top rail I've seen is this one from Tromix

It looks like they secure it to the front trunion and gas block, so at that point, it shouldn't be moving too much, but the torsional rigidity of the rail may still be an issue with it only attached at the front and back.

You do have a third option, which would be to custom make your own furniture. I checked pricing from Rutland for laminated blanks, and it gets pricey, but you could do your own that would be equal in quality to what you'd find in typical AK furniture by laminating multiple top quality birch ply sheets together using a good epoxy. There was a guy that did some solid walunt furniture for a Saiga over on Saiga-12, but I couldn't find the thread in a quick search. I'm sure if you do a little googling, and some digging/reading on Saiga-12.com, you'll find most anything you need to know.

+1 for the front handguard being ready for a bipod

Does anyone know how the ergonomics are if you put a standard AK stock on an unconverted Saiga? It's a simple swap right?

The saiga foreend is pretty decent. the problem with teh stock isn't that it is poorly designed (it is) ugly (very) or its length (too long). it's that the plastic isa bout the same grade used to make MILK JUGS.

i bought a wood stock from toolman here but unfortunately the screw is not drilled and i am too chicken to try it myself alone.
