    anybody install a Mo-Reaper on a 582 Mini-14?

    I have a Mo-Reaper for my 582 series Mini-14.

I had read about head aches people have with taking off the factory sight but that went pretty smooth. I put penetrating oil on it and let it sit for about 15 minutes and then tapped it a few times with my deluxe Home Depot plastic hammer and it came off.

Installing the Mo-Reaper had me a bit worried. The instructions say to make sure everything is properly aligned before tapping it on because if it is not, it might get damaged getting it off for a second try. So I had to get up my nerve for that part but the thing just slid right on and would fall off if the pin wasn't inserted.

Even when I tapped in the pin it was loose enough that it would rotate a bit side to side and move a bit fore and aft. Is all of this normal and correct?

After the pin I lined it up and tightened down the set screws and it seems A-OK. Hasn't flown off or anything after shooting it twice now.

So is it good to go? Is that the way it is supposed to be? What are the instructions talking about, the old non-tapered ones?

I installed one on my late 581 series thirty. Doesn't seem right, but then again I chopped my barrel 1 1/2", re-crowned, then re-drilled the slot and everything was snug. It did slide over the barrel pretty easily, but not so loose that it would fall off.
