The plastic magpul ones are fine, they don't have a lot of adjustability though. My favorite combination is a matech rear sight and a fixed front sight but that doesn't work with every scope/mount setup out there.

Honest experience with plastic vs metal bus

BUIS in general aren't that hot in the precision category. That said, plastic is fine so long as you don't try to mount them on a gas block.
Personally, I find the magpuls unnecessarily bulky and like the ergo's of the Troy's better. Neither is really superior to one another.

Check out the knights micros as well. Very nice sights, low profile, click adjustable rear elevation also. Just expensive.

Lol at fire test.
The fantasy scenarios some of you guys come up with are hilarious.
They are back ups. Even the expensive flip ups are BACK UPS. Too mall ninjas here and elsewhere just like the fact that you flip em up and down (impresses other ignorant ninjas) and use em as primaries which is stupid.
Its like going to a tire shop and buying 4 expensive donuts to put on all four corners of your car.
So what kind of optic do you see yourself running in the future? If it is a red dot, you can just skip folding sights all together and just cowitness with fixed sights. Folding sights really only make sense if you are going to be using a magnified optic, and even at that you can easily get away with just using a rear folding sight and keeping a fixed front.
The magpuls are fine for what they are. Most people that tell you to skip them do so because they are trying to rationalize to themselves the fact that they spent twice as much on Troy's.
If you are a pro and know for a fact that you will be taking your gun into harms way I would worry less about backups and focus my energy on making damn sure I have the best and most durable primary optic for my purposes to avoid at all costs having to switch to a back up.The California Moderate Centrist Militia member in exile

The only time you may have an issue with plastic is if you mount then to a gas block rail . I ran a 100rd rapid fire test on my magpul mbus
I did the test in 80 seconds and the sight did lose zero by about 1-1/2 MOA . They did not melt and after rezeroing they still work fine to this day . I have no problem using them on my gas block as back up sightsTolerate

Anyone else find it sad that those who preach tolerance CAN'T allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that they do not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

I bought the Magpuls, put them on my flat top. They were almost dead on out the plastic bag. After 20 rounds I put the optic on and have never used them again. After all, they're just for back up aren't they.I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

I doubt if the prices were same people would choose plastic. My choice is too have a fixed front and a rear folding. I've picked up folding Troys for $83 shipped and thats only less than a $30 difference to Magpuls. Just brown bag a couple lunches for a month and get a nice Troy rear folding. They are a lot nicer.
I've owned both and even for my CMMG rimfire upper I used Troys and an Eotech 517.Comment
