    NOOB NEEDS HELP

    Hello fellow rifle lovers..
First off, im a total rifle noob, second, i am about to aquire a Stag model 2T ar-15 style rifle. I got it because i admire guns and the sport of target shooting. ( i do have a HK USP 9mm). But what i need to know is, what kind of ammo should i buy. I will only be taking it to the ranges for target practice and im not really a ammo snob or anything, just as long as it dosent damage my rifle. I know my rifle has a 1/9 twist chrome plated barrel if that makes any difference in pruchasing ammo. I tried to search but only a white screen comes up (maybe my browser is jacked or somthing...) Thanks for your help!

Buy a few different brands of ammo and see what works.

If you have a chrome plated bore and chamber, Wolf ammunition should cycle just fine in your gun. It will be dirty and not particularly accurate, but it will be cheap.

Since you are getting an OLL, make sure your rifle is configured in a legally compliant manner.

Welcome to Calguns.net. It sounds like you've been bitten by the bug. Cool. As far as what ammo, get the best ammo you can afford. In my experience, stick with factory brass cased ammo. Avoid the steel cased Wolf ammo in AR's. Once you find ammo that works for you, try to stick with that brand and bullet weight for consistent accuracy.

      Hope that helps.

I buy reloads at ammobros in cerritos and have never had a problem. Just stay away from wolf unless your gonna use an ak-47.

Your new rifle will need to be feed .223 cal/5.56mm ammo. As already mentioned a few times, please avoid using wolf ammo if you can. It shoots really dirty and you'll spend lots of time cleaning your rifle after shooting it. Additionally, many ranges do not allow the steel jacketed wolf ammo.

Wolf is fine unless your rifle is broken, out of spec, or tuned up for match ammo. If it's a chrome lined barrel as you say, and standard 5.56 chamber, it should work just as well as brassed cased ammo.

Reloads from a reputable company (read: insured and licensed manufacturer) are good too. Or just reload yourself.

              Its addicting.

If you value your bank account, run. Run away now.

Go the next gunshow that has Miwall attending. They usually have cases of .223 ammo cheaper than any store, and about the same as mail order prices.

New ammo can be had for $330/k
you think they have better deals with reloaded ammo?
It might be worth a road trip if they do

IIRC, 5.56 NATO ammunition is not safe to use in a .223 barrel, however the vice versa is safe to do.

                            ...

first of all thanks for all your responses secondly.. lets see if i got this right...wolf ammo is good because its cheap and bad because it is inaccurate and will crud up my gun ; I need to lean towards brass jacketed ammo and not steell jacketed; re-loads are ok but only if they are from a reputable company......am i on the right track,??? anything else i should know?
                            Thanks again!
