Under Federal laws/regulations...

A firearm with a rifled barrel of less than 16" and with an overall length of less than 26" and does not have a shoulder stock = Title 1 Handgun.

A firearm with a rifled barrel of less than 16" and with an overall length of greater than 26" and does not have a shoulder stock = Title 1 Other.

A Title 1 Handgun can legally have an angled forward grip and/or a horizontal forward grip.
A Title 1 Handgun with a vertical forward grip, is no longer considered a Title 1 Handgun and is considered a Title 2 AOW.
BATFE approval is required for the legal ownership of a Title 2 AOW.

A Title 1 Other can legally have an angled forward grip and/or a horizontal forward grip and/or a vertical forward grip.


Under CA laws/regulations...
A firearm with a less than 16" barrel is considered a "Handgun".

A second handgrip means any type (angled, horizontal, vertical) of forward grip.

A semi-auto pistol that accepts detachable magazines and accepts those magazines outside of the pistol grip and has a second handgrip is an assault weapon.

A semi-auto pistol that has a fixed 10 or less round magazine located outside of the pistol grip, can legally have a second handgrip.


Therefore, in compliance with Federal & CA laws/regulations...

An AR Pistol with an overall length of less than 26" and with a maglock + 10 or less round magazine, can legally have an angled forward grip and/or a horizontal forward grip.

An AR Pistol with an overall length of greater than 16" and with a maglock + 10 or less round magazine, can legally have an angled forward grip and/or a horizontal forward grip and/or a vertical forward grip.

Being afraid to get "policed" on here by asking questions it led me on a hunt for answers using the SEARCH up there and Bing (F Google). So to clarify, and please forgive me for my first newbie question... Is it ok for me to mount a 12" Beawulf upper on an 80% lower set up as a pistol? This is all i am looking for to get my build on the way. If Y/N please explain.

Here's my pistol built from an 80%. This thing is so much fun to shoot. Too bad ammo is soo expensive nowadays. Anyways, been adding stuff here and there for about a year now. I think I'm gonna swap out the optic for a cheap micro red-dot like the Primary Arms Micro or the Bushnell TRS-25 or the Vortex Sparc. Unless I'm going out to war, I'm gonna stay away from the war proven Eotechs and Aimpoints.
