Tools Required for Lower Build

I have done some reading, and want to have the right tools when I assemble my Lower.

All the talk of the trigger guard lugs breaking off has got me a little scared, so I will feel justified spending a few extra bucks for proper tools because I only purchased one Lower. I'm a minimalist.

Cabelas sells a Punch kit and Brass hammer for $19.99 -- Brownells has a "Roll Pin" Punch kit for a few dollars more. I like the idea of getting the little gunsmith hammer with the Cabelas kit and was wondering if it would work just as good as the Brownells one. I've already decided to purchase the Roll Pin Holder kit from Brownells for around 20 bucks.

Any other tools that might be usefull for the job at hand?

I put two of mine together with a pair of vice grips and some duct tape. Not a single scratch on either. No punches or ther junk.

same with me. the ONLY special tool I used was the tool needed to tighten the stock. I didn't use punches, I just used pliers with electrical tape around the needles. Everything else, I used whatever tools were available in my mechanics toolbox

i did that and accidentally scratched my lower. i didn't put enough tape on the jaws.

Just put mine together with vice grips and electrical tape. Everything went together pefectly, no problems at all. I did have to use a punch (not the proper kind, but it worked) to tape the two roll pins in the final amount.

I scratched my lower with the vice grip idea. I used the instructions from Ar 15.com. I used a new vice grip and didn't wrap enough tape around the teeth of the pliers. That pin that holds the trigger guard wouldn't go in flush. I kept tightening it and the teeth dug deep into the other side. I couldn't remove that pin; it still sticks out about a cm or two and isn't flush. Luckily a $4 file and some gun black fixed the teeth marks.

I use a hammer, punch, and allen wrench (for the pistol grip, and one for the magazine catch modification)

Use the pivot pin to depress the detent and it shouldn't go flying, or require extra tools.

super easy and had it together in 30 min.

I was surprised how easy it was to put together, it can be done without instructions because everything only goes in one way. You just have to take your time and not scratch anything or kink a spring.
