    Buffer?

What's the best buffer to upgrade to from a regular carbine buffer?

There really aren't upgrades here as opposed to what would be correctly tuned for your rifle.
Ideally as heavy as you can go that still cycles reliably, however your specific application may not need to be heavier, maybe lighter, maybe it is perfect as is.

What makes you think you need a different one?

My AR runs fine with the carbine buffer I have in it now. I figured changing it to a heavier buffer might make a difference for the better and if it didn't I could always drop the old one back in.

If it ain't broke, dont fix it. You are more likely to throw it out of being tuned correctly by futzing with something for no reason.

Try the Spikes ST-T2. The powdered tungsten is better IMO than weights because it takes the TWANG out of the recoil. After I tried one I bought them for all my ARs.

i don't worry about the twang, but i have an st-t2 in my spikes and it does work very well.

              Unless you are over-gassed...

              then...

The belief in lower recoil with heavier buffers and carriers is a little misplaced. It does apply if you are over-gassed as it slows down the system. However, if everything is behaving appropriately, the better way to reduce recoil is by getting lighter buffers and carriers and tuning them with an adjustable gas block.

I have run the SCS with a standard weight BCG and it still felt like an upgrade.

How can you tell if an AR is over-gassed?

The best buffer upgrade is probably the JP silent capture Spring system combined with an adjustable gas block. Although I have just tossed in a H1 buffer into my carbine, and it also works in my mid length ARs fine, but can vary rifle to rifle. Thus the adjustable gas block being the best way to adjust the buffer,

I've noticed that a heavier H1 buffer and 'extra power' Wolff buffer spring helped my 16" mid-length carbine and 10" pistol setup.

With the stock buffer & spring, the casings where ejecting around the 2:00 position and flying a good 6-8 ft away from me. With the heavier buffer & spring, now my casings eject around the 4:00 position and go maybe 3 ft away from me.

Both uppers are 'factory' Palmetto builds.

Awesome graphic Joe. I especially like the 6-12 side.

I pretty much have perfect 3:00 ejection and let a buddy shoot mine while I shot another gun on the bench next to him. I kept on getting peppered with brass. So good ejection for the gun but not for your starboard range buddy. Lol

                            6-12 is pretty funny.
